Publisher's Summary

Joel Reading was lonely.

Nineteen years old, estranged from his family, and seemingly unable to ever get a second date, he'd surrounded himself with the things he loved most: old books and old music.

When one date got out of hand before it even began, Joel found himself displaced from a flooded apartment and on the doorstep of a handsome and older stranger more than willing to take Joel in for the night.

Gabriel Hunter had waited years for the right man.

When a distressed Joel showed up at his door needing a place to stay, it was more perfect than Gabriel could ever have hoped for. He quickly found himself falling for the complex and beautiful boy he welcomed into his house and started to believe in a future with the young man he adoringly called Little Red.

Unfortunately, Gabriel was a man of many secrets, and they threatened to unravel the delicate relationship he was building with Joel.

Would Joel be able to see beyond Gabriel's deliberate omissions and give their love a chance, or would Gabriel's kind of love prove to be more than Joel could handle?

The Lonely Hearts Stories are interconnected stories that weave characters together across the releases. While you would appreciate the characters and their journey by starting from the beginning, these can be listened to as stand-alones.

Fantastic and dramatic

Kate Hawthorne has given us written gold. Her masterful storytelling is only more intense with Kenneth Obi’s wonderful narration. He brings to life Gabriel and Joel as well as an amazing cast of side characters. Definitely well worth it!

A perfect voice to a fantastic story

Gabriel has a deep love for Joel. Joel seems to have no luck at all unless it is bad luck lately, from car troubles to a broken phone, getting stood up for a date, almost carjacked. Joel just does not know how much more he can take. Until he meets Gabriel. Gabriel seems to good to be true but Joel has decided to just run with it and see where the relationship can lead.

This was my first ever Kate Hawthorne book and I have to say she absolutely did not disappoint. But now when you add in Kenneth Obi, this book gets elevated to a level like no other. I will absolutely be adding this to my list of audio that I listen to over and over. These two together make a winning combo in my opinion.

Creepy-Sweet romance

Gabriel has been stalking Joel for years. When he finally manages to get Joel in to his home, he realizes he has to come clean if this is ever going to work out. Before he can tell all, matters are taken out of his control, and everything goes wrong. I can't decide if the reunion that ultimately follows is sweet or Stockholm syndrome, but it was definitely an interesting journey!

Enthralling and very different! Loved it!!

This was definitely special. Very surprising and different.

Gabriel helps Joel out when he’s very much down on his luck. There’s an almost instant connection between the two men and the chemistry between them is amazing. Gabriel is both a protector and a predator, dangerous yet so gentle with Joel. I loved that juxtaposition. Things move very fast between them and seem almost too good to be true. So of course…they have to go south at some point. Which they do in a very dramatic way. Gabriel has some secrets that aren’t easily explained away or forgiven. His love for Joel is so deep and powerful though that you really root for him. Gabriel and Joel have a unique bond. It’s a very consuming, borderline obsessive love, but it works for them. I believed it. Really enjoyed this story.

Narration: Kenneth Obi did a great job with the narration, as always. I very much enjoyed his take on Gabriel especially, though he captures Joel's innocence and insecurities perfectly too.

Stalker Tendencies!

I read the book when it first came out and I thought it was just okay. Then when the audio version was released. I was hoping that there would be a growly alpha bear sounding voice and it wasn’t. Both voices were strange and high pitched. and it was odd narration. I didn’t ask for my credit back but I won’t be listening to it again. The plot was unique and the ending was happy. Something were left out I still don’t know what was in the envelope the uncle gave to his brother and wife. Or how did he know the ring was purchased. Smh.

So good and so naughty!

At the beginning, you think you're listening to a sweet May/December with a slight stalker vibe and then you get the full Gabriel (new term, like full Monty but better). Joel didn't have a chance! I love the almost taboo nature of their relationship. So good and so sexy! Well done, Mr. Obi. Yet another book to add to my ever growing relisten list.
