HIP-HOP (AND OTHER THINGS) is the third book in the (And Other Things) series. The first two—Basketball (And Other Things) and Movies (And Other Things)—were both #1 New York Times bestsellers. Music Entertainment Sports

Critic reviews

"This quirky, wide-ranging collection of essays, paired with gorgeous art, is a well-informed love letter to hip-hop."—Kirkus

Praise for Shea Serrano (And His Other Books):

"Paging through Serrano's Movies (And Other Things) is like taking a long drive at night with a friend; there's that warmth and familiarity where the chat is more important than the fastest route from Point A to Point B. [Movies] is like a textbook gone right; your attention couldn't wander if it tried. With a foreword by John Leguizamo and afterword by Don Cheadle, movie buffs have no excuse not to lose themselves in this oddball book."

New York Times

"Shea Serrano's Basketball (And Other Things) is equal parts hilarious and enlightening...this is the ultimate book on basketball fandom."

NPR

"Even if you're a basketball novice or die-hard Spurs fan like Shea, this is a perfect companion to his Rap Year Book: full of myths, what-ifs, and hyperspecific fanaticism."

Vulture

"Cleverly written and beautifully illustrated...It's a must for any basketball fan."

Esquire

"...hilarious and insightful..."

Men's Journal

"[Shea Serrano is] America's foremost chronicler of pop minutiae."

Texas Monthly

Equal parts informative, hilarious, creative, and thought provoking, you need to hear this if you’re a hip-hop head.

Another incredible book in Shea’s catalogue. Well done, sir.

If you love hip-hop, you’ll love this.

I had this same problem with Shea’s book Basketball and other things. The content of this and that book are wonderfully nostalgic for me and I love the stories and love reminiscing. I had a tough time listening to the narrator butcher names through out the whole thing. Other than that, fucking brilliant.

Great book, uninformed narrator

This book was a lot of fun. Shea did a good job narrating and writing. It’s packed full of tid bits about your favorite rappers & songs. He clearly lives& loves hip hop.And you will love this book if you love hip hop

Funny and clever

So I loved the book just I love everything Shea puts out. If you are a hip-hop head you have to listen and buy the book for your coffee table. My only gripe was the narrator. I mean come on, how do mispronounced rapper names, Pharoh Monch should not be pronounced, MONK. Treach is not TREEEEch. Method Man's Tikal not TEEKILE. Other than that definitely worth every penny.

Great book and great narration but...

A lot of blog posts. Maybe it would've been better if I read it.
But to his credit, this is well studied and you can tell the author took great efforts to expand his horizons of hip hop. He rarely shows a favor for any era or subgenre of hip hop. He shows the whole culture love.
The voice actor was meh. He mispronounced a few words and names. It kind of took me out of the story at times.

Good pastime reading - meh voice actor
