Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Damien Echols presents an unabridged audiobook of the spiritual practices that helped him survive and transcend his ordeal on death row.

At age 18, Damien Echols was sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit. “I spent my years in prison training to be a true magician,” he recalls. “I used magick - the practice of reshaping reality through our intention and will - to stave off incredible pain, despair, and isolation. But the most amazing feat of all that practice and study was to manifest my freedom.” With High Magick, this best-selling author shares his first audiobook on these powerful spiritual techniques.

Though modern culture has consigned “magic” to fiction, stage illusions, or superstitions about witchcraft, the magick Damien learned is an ancient Western tradition equal to the Eastern practices of Buddhism, Taoism, and yoga in its wisdom and transformative power. Here he brings you an engaging and highly accessible guide on how to bring magick into your own life, including:

  • What is High Magick? Damien clears away the stigma and reveals the history and core teachings of this extraordinary art
  • The Four-Fold Breath - a foundational meditation practice to train your mind and body to channel subtle energies
  • The Middle Pillar - how to bring divine energy into the central channel of your body for empowerment and healing
  • The Qabalistic Cross - a centering technique to help you stay balanced and protected regardless of circumstances
  • The Lesser Rituals of the Pentagram - powerful ceremonies for banishing negative energies and invoking energy to manifest your goals
  • Working with angelic beings and thoughtforms
  • Guidance for overcoming your doubts, enhancing your visualization skills, creating talismans, practicing magick ethically, and much more

“Magick is a journey,” writes Damien. “It’s a continuously unfolding path that has no end. You can study and practice magick for the rest of your life and you will still never learn everything that it has to teach you.” If you’re ready to discover your untapped potential for co-creating your reality with the energy of the divine, then join this extraordinary teacher to begin your training in High Magick.

Editorial Review

I'm also a big fan of finding whatever works for you, be it running, journaling, or magick, which is what former Death Row inmate Damien Echols attributes his survival to. If the words West Memphis Three ring a bell to you, you'll know that Echols was one of the three teenagers who were wrongfully accused of a triple murder in Arkansas in 1993. Having served 18 years of a death sentence for a crime he didn't commit, Echols attributes his freedom to this Eastern tradition of shaping reality through our intention and will. Sounds a lot like the mindfulness trend—and something that will be a go-to conversation topic at my Thanksgiving table this year. —Courtney R., Audible Editor

EXCELLENT Book on High Magick

Like the author, I am self (and spirit) taught. People have asked me over and over for instructions on how to get started with the magical approach that I've used all my life, but writing about it was just not where I was at. Now, I have a book that I can refer folks to. I love the audible version the best because then I can focus all my brain power on paying attention to the concepts. I love his voice. And I love the way he, like I, tells folks that there isn't anything hard about it. This book makes it possible for folks to learn by doing and see for themselves how following the magical approach to life is rewarding and fun. More and more, you will connect with what I call "the Universe" or "the energies." Get this.

Disappointed by Echols

Was a fan of Echols until I found out he is endorsing a white supremacist on his youtube channel. The book was pretty good but I can't support him any longer. There is good information in here if you can divorce yourself from the author.

This Book Can Transform Your Life

The story in this book is very inspiring, and the exercises themselves can change your life. It is presented in a way that is easy to understand. There is so much helpful information in this book. I've been practicing yoga and meditation for many years, and this is one of the best books on energy work that I've ever read. I highly recommend the companion audiobook: "A Course in High Magick"

Excellent but somewhat duplicated

Excellent source. There's significant overlap with Echols' other Audible title. I happily bought both, but if you only want one, buy this one.

Excellent!

This book actually exceeded my expectations. I wish I had stumbled upon it a few years ago. I think this is a wonderful starting place for those wanting to learn Magick of any sort, but especially for High Magick, obviously. Mr. Echols also has a very inspiring story of Perseverance and Hope. Well done, Damien Echols; Thank You.

MOST EXCELLENT AND A NEW REQUIRED READING!!! .:.

Wow, how refreshing to pickup a book and audio that has something to do with the title and more so, one that is spot on regarding magical concepts. There are no "only one way" or religiously hidden BS anywhere in this book and audio, just straightforward experiential concepts that worked for the author... everything he did and explained quite clearly we call and accept as legit magic. FWIW... In the audio he pronounces certain words differently than most have been taught. That's completely okay. please don't let your rigidity and amazing self-assured perfections override your capability! I too have suffered an exceedingly harsh life and openly say that this man is an example of what real magic can and should produce when done correctly. May you all be richly blessed by reading/listening to this book. Cheers

A compelling introduction to Magick

Reviewing a book like this can be difficult. The main questions on everyone's lips are 'Is magick 'real' or just deluded silliness?' and 'Does this stuff actually work?' This review is being written after some practice in the methods presented, and a good listen through in its entirety, but the answer to those questions would take the reader time to answer. Why I've given it five stars is because if you want an understanding of traditional Magick, the performing of rituals to invoke unseen entities and energies to affect your life, this is perfect. if you've read this far, you have sufficient interest for this to be worth your time. 'High Magick' provides a simple biography of the author and his astonishing 18 years on Death Row and subsequent release. during that time Damien Echols used magickal practices to occupy his time, maintain his sanity and stave of the fear, anxiety and physical pain that accompanied him at that time. The principles of what Magick is (and is not), and several basic rituals are detailed. The idea that magic is unnatural, satanic or 'evil' is succinctly dispelled and it becomes clear that while many may dismiss the practice as childish or silly, everybody inhabits it regularly. Prayer to a Deity, superstitions, the modern 'Law of Attraction' system, guided meditation, screaming at the TV show your team succeed as you wear your 'lucky socks'...it's all loosely or in some cases, quite precisely, us wanting 'magick' to happen, and we implore it to do so very regularly. This book provides some of the theory and mechanisms to do so with a more focussed intent and understanding of what it is you're doing and what you're trying to tap into. Echoks narration is clear and enthusiastic. The rituals are laid out in a step-by-step manner, and the notion of developing your own practices and finding your own path with what you learn...once you have the basics down to a tee, is liberating. Some history of magic is included, though an expansive teaching of that legacy and advanced knowledge and rituals is beyond the scope of this book. As a caveat, I strongly suggest people understand the circumstances of Echols' incarceration and release, and can be one hundred percent comfortable with those details before following his teachings.

Excellent practical foundation for the general person or the neophyte

Love Echols’ warm southern drawl, he makes everything clear and concise. Nothing is superfluous yet everything is explained. Just what you need to springboard off further into more advanced stuff - or you could stick with these rituals alone and you’d be a happy ceremonial magician. Very glad I bought it - easy to listen to. Two thumbs up all round! What a dude :)

Fascinating

The author explains beautifully . A wonderful voice. He is intelligent and clear. Love his non preaching approach of simply sharing what has worked for him , which is huge in his case , a life of indescribable suffering and injustice to surviving. A beautiful human being.

Excellent Book

Pleasure to listen to, concise information without all the new age mumbo jumbo or difficult, verbose scripts of certain orders. Will definitely return to this audio many times over as it is a valuable goldmine of occult knowledge that is easy to access and absorb.

missing....something

didnt quite peak my interest enough to focus. Maybe missing a little more on the uses and reasons for the rituals? maybe better read in actual book form?
