Publisher's summary

“Luke” Hamilton has been living as a husband and father for the past 17 years. No one but her wife, Nora, knows she is not the man she appears to be. They have raised their daughters to become honest and hard-working young women, but even with their loving foundation, Amy and Nattie are hiding their own secrets.

Just as Luke sets out on a dangerous trip to Fort Boise, a newcomer arrives on the ranch - Rika Aaldenberg, who traveled to Oregon as a mail-order bride, hiding that she’s not the woman in the letters.

When hidden truths are revealed, will their lives and their family fall apart or will love keep them together?

Simply adorable

It is just as good as the first in it's own unique way. It's characters are still written with just as much love and care. I would definitely recommend it to anyone feeling a bit unsure in trusting a sequel.

Fantastic Sequel

The first book is better, but this one is very cute and another great read. I wish it was more dramatic, so much seems to be too cutesy and easy going.

Superb Story!

The second book in the Oregon series was absolutely superb. I loved getting to follow these c characters as they grow and evolve. Jae's writing is amazing and the narrator of the audiobook does a wonderful job bringing these characters to life and relaying their emotions throughout their journey. I'm so impressed with Jae's writing style and her ability to bring Oregon in the 1800s to life so vividly. Seeing the Hamilton family years after they make it to Oregon and how Amy and Nettie grow up into wonderful young women just makes my heart flutter. I highly recommend this wlw series to anyone. Jae does a wonderful job writing the complexities of these characters and this type of storyline. VERY IMPRESSED!

Fabulous!

I just finished this follow-up to Backwards to Oregon, and again I am dumbstruck and full of emotion. The combination of these two books - plus the additional short stories - are nothing short of remarkable. I realize I am late to the party here, but if anyone like me was reading most of Jae's other books and had these two on the back burner, please take this opportunity of time to indulge. Yes - it's historical fiction and beautifully and meticulously researched and written, but at the heart of it is a love story on a grand scale. I listened to the two novels on audio and they are long listens at 15.5 and 16 hours but don't let that be a deterrent. It's actually beneficial in that you get so immersed in these wonderful characters' lives and never want them to end. Now I have to purchase the paperbacks to experience them in that way as well. These are keepers, folks. I stretched these out as long as I could and am so sad to have to say goodbye. Absolutely terrific and 1000% worth your money!

so many emotions

I throughly enjoyed the storyline and the performance. I shed a tear, yelled out loud, and smiled. the characters were well developed and I enjoyed the story picking up almost 17 years from the previous book. I highly recommend giving this book a try. I don't think you'll regret it.

The Secrets Catch Up

The sequel to Backwards To Oregon is a remarkable addition to the historical story of women loving women and women living as men in the old west. The narration is marvelous and the wonderful story of Luke and Nora Hamilton and their daughters showcases the courage and strength of character required to live with hidden truths. Tess and Frankie’s storyline brings them to the ranch. A true masterpiece of love and family.

It's Lesbian 1883 and 1923...with the HEA

As per my tastes, I usually do not partake in historical romances. I am so glad I ignored that fact and read this series!...

Book 1 starts with characters and the Oregon Trail
Book 2 starts 17 years later and tells the kids stories and how secrets can affect a family

Beautifully written with a constant pace edged with suspense. Could not stop listening..

Good narration and a refreshing take on western/frontier trope.
