Publisher's Summary

“Luke” Hamilton has been living as a husband and father for the past 17 years. No one but her wife, Nora, knows she is not the man she appears to be. They have raised their daughters to become honest and hard-working young women, but even with their loving foundation, Amy and Nattie are hiding their own secrets.

Just as Luke sets out on a dangerous trip to Fort Boise, a newcomer arrives on the ranch - Rika Aaldenberg, who traveled to Oregon as a mail-order bride, hiding that she’s not the woman in the letters.

When hidden truths are revealed, will their lives and their family fall apart or will love keep them together?

Fabulous!

I just finished this follow-up to Backwards to Oregon, and again I am dumbstruck and full of emotion. The combination of these two books - plus the additional short stories - are nothing short of remarkable. I realize I am late to the party here, but if anyone like me was reading most of Jae's other books and had these two on the back burner, please take this opportunity of time to indulge. Yes - it's historical fiction and beautifully and meticulously researched and written, but at the heart of it is a love story on a grand scale. I listened to the two novels on audio and they are long listens at 15.5 and 16 hours but don't let that be a deterrent. It's actually beneficial in that you get so immersed in these wonderful characters' lives and never want them to end. Now I have to purchase the paperbacks to experience them in that way as well. These are keepers, folks. I stretched these out as long as I could and am so sad to have to say goodbye. Absolutely terrific and 1000% worth your money!

Excellent follow up!!

This book was amazing and heartfelt! Not even the era of the book could take away from some of the great lessons throughout the book. I enjoyed the characters thoroughly and it was nice to watch them unfold. Overall, great book, I wish there were more!! Highly recommended!

so many emotions

I throughly enjoyed the storyline and the performance. I shed a tear, yelled out loud, and smiled. the characters were well developed and I enjoyed the story picking up almost 17 years from the previous book. I highly recommend giving this book a try. I don't think you'll regret it.

so satisfying

another lovely happy ending story by Jae about characters from Backward to Oregon. The narrator is the same. I was a hit annoyed by the narration in the first one, but it was smoother for this book although her pronunciation of a few words here and there was jarring (taffeta, cravat?l anyways, I still recommend it for a heartwarming read.

Why is Love so Complicated ?

Jae, this series was “off the Hook”. By far this was The Best Wild Western series in my Collection. Off to my next Adventure.

Simply adorable

It is just as good as the first in it's own unique way. It's characters are still written with just as much love and care. I would definitely recommend it to anyone feeling a bit unsure in trusting a sequel.

Another favourite of mine.

This is the sequel to 'Backwards to Oregon '. However, there is one tiny reference to a short story (the name of the short story collection eludes me at the moment), in the accompanying short story collection that is relevant to this story. That said, you don't need to read the short story to understand the reference. I first got this book as a Kindle version Like the first story, I was thrilled to see it in the Audible catalogue. It's well researched, well developed, and has you wanting the happy ever after both the main characters are hoping for, if for totally different reasons to start with. It was also lovely to have Tess included in a more tangible way. I didn't mind the narrator, I think she actually did a better job on this book than the first one. If I want a couple of books to lose myself in, these two are some of my go-to escape novels.

Another superb book from Jae

I love this series and I hope Jae will add more books to it. It would make a really good romantic tv series and has plenty of adventure, especially as it challenges bigotry. I feel sad to have come to the end of this book....

I love this book

I listened to the first book (Backwards to Oregon) first then this one straight after. The details and descriptions are written beautifully and I loved the stories. My only complaint is the narrators unnatural paused mid sentence and her mispronunciation of cavalry! (She kept saying ‘calvery’!) Overall though, I really liked the book.
