Publisher's summary

When 17-year-old Nikki Harmon moves to Bland, Virginia, she expects her new life will be as dull as the town's name.

But she finds that not everything is as it seems and the forest surrounding her new home holds secrets - one of them being a centuries-old Indian legend, carefully guarded by Adam Black Water, the leader of a pack of boys known as the Keepers.

Nikki will soon discover that the forest holds more magic and danger than she ever dreamed possible, as a killer lurks on the Appalachian Trail. As she searches for the truth, she will unearth the darkest secret of all.

But will she lose her heart? Or will she lose her life?

Hidden Gem

Hidden Moon was a hidden gem waiting to be found. This PN combines Native American lore, with North American legends and also some Fae elements thrown in to equal one good PN story. The narration was excellent as well. Following their fathers accidental death, Nikki and her sister Emily, have returned with their mom to their fathers family homestead. Nikki has always had a gift of sight, but didn't understand what it was or what was happening at the time. Now she's hearing people's thoughts and seeing visions. She becomes friends with her next door neighbor Brian and then also a Native American boy Adam. It soon becomes evident that she is a long awaited Seer to the Native American tribe who are the Keepers and watch over things. She has to understand and take her place among their tribe while they are in the midst of trying to find a killer who is preying on Hikers in their area. She also finds herself caught between two boys she adores, but only one is meant for her.

Narrated by Marnye Young, she projected the right voices, and tenor when needed and I think she did an excellent job with this story. Her voice fit Nikki perfectly.

Pleasantly surprised!!!

I will admit I was very reluctant to buy the book however it showed up on my recommended list after reading/listening to Darynda Jones "Eleventh grave in moonlight" loving that series, I thought why not I have nothing else.
Even though the girl was only seventeen, the book read mature. Thank goodness for I'm tired of high drama teen angst which seems to be flooding the sci/fantasy genre, I'm 38 I don't want to hear or read about it lol.
This book is a wonderful, fun read/ listen. The narrator wasn't bad and it was worth the money. enjoy.

Very reminiscent

Much of the story is very reminiscent of twilight. Or at least it is to me.

Taking the story on its own it’s not bad. It keeps you interested as the storyline moves along. Lots of fun little details to dip into. It is a very good young adult read for those who enjoyed the twilight series.

Good

I listened to this years ago. Probably when it first came out. I enjoyed it all over again.

Awesome

Gifted author with beautiful descriptive writing, yet quick paced and a "page turner". The words and descriptions she used helped me see things so clearly, yet not exhaustive so you loose interest. I found it resembled Twilight in its own way, and loved the nod of the head to Cinderella when the main character got ready for her first date with her soul mate (the date itself could have been entirely rewritten though and I felt like the author glossed over it). It was a sweet romance, but it's story was heavily focused on the mystery. If you like adventure, romance, wish Jacob got with Bella Swan *cough*, and like fantasy appearing in the "real world", then you'd probably like this book. I'm stopping at this one, but thoroughly enjoyed it.

Incredibly captivating

I started this book thinking, this is not my kind of romance. It was young, and paranormal. Boy was I wrong. This book has a little of everything in it. Danger, romance, intrigue, suspense, angst..you name it and it was there. K R Thompson brings us the story of Nikki, who moves to her family's homestead after the death of her father. Here she meets Brian(whom I personally love and feel for) and Adam...not your normal high school crushes to say the least. This book delves into to Indian folklore, werewolves, shifting, serial killing and telepathy. I was completely captivated and had to find out who the killer was, who was Nikki going to end up with, who is Winter, there were just so many questions! And the book leaves you completely open for book 2(which isn't out yet on audio!)

Marnye Young is the narrator of this book, it's my first time hearing her perform, but it will not be my last. She gave a narration that was incredible, kept me completely in the story and wanting more. I hope she continues with the series, I know I will be looking for it!

food chewing sounds....

I enjoyed the book and the narration was okay until the lip smacking food chewing sounds sent me into a rage. For those of us that have that sensory issue (open mouth chewers) it is an issue. It happens a couple times in the book.
