In this imaginative progression fantasy, when a small-town superhero heads to college, she'll have to juggle coursework, supervillains, and romance.

Anika DuPont just knows she's bound for stardom. As Magical Girl Understudy, she's already a big deal in her hometown, and now that she's eighteen, she's heading to Tokyexico University, where the real action is. Every superhero on Earth is jockeying for better roles in a global reality show created for the amusement of alien children, and Annie's trying to keep her secret identity hidden while she makes her way out of dead-end Little League roles.

On her own for the first time, Annie begins to settle into her new college routine. There's plenty of studying to do, parties to attend, friends to make, and supervillains to fight. And that's all in between leveling up for new skills awarded by the Style System in order to take her from kid stuff into the superhero minor leagues.

As she grows into her new powers—and her rivalry with her high school sweetheart/nemesis Peter aka Professor Panic intensifies—a new distraction enters stage right: Intro to Drama classmate Bianca, who's as talented and awkward as she is beautiful. Can Annie still make all her dreams of fame and fortune come true, or has this small-town super met her limits?

The first volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than 400,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Who Framed Roger Rabbit meets The Truman Show meats Superheroes meets Litrpg.....wow. This certainly is one of the most ambitious and unique stories i have ever heard of. At first it's clear lack of seriousness and zany antics seemed like this book wasn't going to be for me, and yet i kept listening and kept laughing until i realized it was nearly four in the morning and i hadn't slept for nearly 24 hours and STILL i wanted MOAR!!!
Look i get it, if you want something far more realistic this book will drive you nuts and you will hate it. However, that said if you can just let this story be what IT wants to be then you will have one heck of a good ride. It's not perfect or anything, pretty sure the stat sheet was just plain wrong for the last 1/3 of the book and it can meander a little bit at times getting distracted and completely ignoring characters that aren't immediately on screen, Still i would very much recommend it to people. Lol just as an aside i think one of the things i loved most about this book is that for all of it's whimsy and silliness it probably has one of the most realistic outcomes for what would happen if an MC tried to punch above their weight class before they were ready i.e. they get stomped....HARD. So if you want to watch a struggling child actress/heroine try and make it into the big leagues and become a real star then this book just might be for you!!!!

LOL What the BEEP did i just listen to!!!?

I like the world, system, and the fights but the MC is horrible with all her interpersonal relationships. Like she'll put boundaries that are completely fair up for her boyfriend but then get mad at him for not breaking those boundaries. She treats everyone else she is "friends" with as a thing to benefit from. It is completely believable for a young college student regardless of gender but it isn't enjoyable.

World is interesting but MC is kinda terrible

This book was pretty good, the style system is interesting as is some of the world building and the characters. The narration is good for the most part but the stat reads and a few other small parts felt a little clunky, still really good overall.

pretty good time

Another reviewer pointed out something I wasn't even gonna comment on. But yeah. She set up fair boundaries and was annoyed when her boyfriend did not break those boundaries.

The boyfriend turned Ex received no justice. I liked their relationship, I wanted it to work out even if there were a rough patch. But it was fine and realistic that they broke up. But the story treated the MC as if she were entirely in the right, and that the boyfriend was in the wrong. He did not take the break up well. He did not take the long distance well. She took it worse. She ignored his feelings, even when she--at multiple occasions--said they needed to talk about things. The book did not let him give his side.

He obviously still cared about the relationship, and she kept accusing him of not caring. Okay, that is realistic because he was not forward about how he was showing how he still cared. He did not communicate well. But the book never let him explain that, never gave him a monologue on their relationship even though he has a skill all about monologue and exposition (though, in a villainous context. but their climax was during a villainous encounter where he was attacking her as a villain against a superheroes).

I would not mind any of this--because it was all real--if the ex received any justice. But she accused him in her head, cheated on him, set conflicting expectations, ogled other people before breaking up (this is more of a nitpick because I'm frustrated at her, she actually tried to be good with this at first, at least until after she cheated on him), and neither she nor the book gave his side of things. The best we get is that after their fight (where she wins, which was unreasonable in my opinion, he should have won for a couple reasons, and I think it would have been the better outcome story wise), he says "I did it all for you," which is more so framed as a mad genius being crazy than a boyfriend trying to surprise his girlfriend (She moved to college. While they were still in a relationship, he was already making plans to come see her frequently. Sometimes as his villain persona. The plan was perverted into an all out attack as part of his poor handling of their breakup. But He started it as a way to come see her more often AS HER BOYFRIEND).

Oh. Also, she accused him of not caring about the relationship. But he cared. he made her something to build. A robot, which probably was going to be a way to more easily communicate, or at least be a part of him for her to keep close. She didn't take the time to build it (I think it took her weeks to start). In the beginning, he kept pestering her about when and how often they could video chat. But She complained when she had to schedule their video chats--when she had to be the one to schedule them because of her hectic schedule. He wanted to talk more often. but he respected her busy schedule, and let her set times and even raincheck. But he's 20 minutes late to one chat and she gets to be pissy?

I'm ranting too much. The perspective is just too one sided, and feels faulty. Not wrong per se, just the implementation feels biased and done wrongly. I can see how it happened. But then they didn't give boyfriend justice. No scene where he was treated as reasonable or sincere in the slightest. Not even an interlude from his perspective.

Great Setting. Horrible Lead.

The narration is great, but the story isn't really for me. From the start you learn that aliens are handing out superpowers to kids in their formative years. The story says it's because the alien's saved Earth and then offered technology in exchange for entertainment. What irks me is that everyone is okay with this. No one is mentioning that the system manipulates the people's emotions to be better or worse. No one mentions how the heroes and villains in their ethics classes are basically blasé about killing people if it means good TV ratings. All of the seriously messed up stuff is kind of thrown in like it doesn't matter. The show is meant to be lighthearted but it reads like a roman colosseum with a thin coat of paint on it. The main character got powers at like 10 years old and basically can't imagine doing literally anything other than being a 'hero' for the rest of her life. The main villain's system basically makes him insane and no one mentions that as a bad thing. It's just not that great to listen to for me.
