Publisher's Summary

Four-year-old Kayden has been sitting alone on the little patch of tired grass outside his house for hours. His cheeks are wet with tears as he waits for his mother’s warm embrace. But she’ll never arrive to pick up her darling boy. She’ll never be seen again....

Church Road is a quiet corner of suburbia where happy families play in the local park and neighbors smile as they pass in the street. But behind the bright red door of number eight lies the body of Billie Reeves, a young mum who just took her last breath.

Serena is Billie’s sister. When she found out her boyfriend had been obsessively calling Billie, she’d all but cut her from her life. But not before vowing she would make Billie pay for ruining her relationship....

Shaun is Billie’s ex-boyfriend. He left her the moment she fell pregnant. When he turned up at Billie’s door, demanding to see Kayden, she refused to take the risk of him hurting her precious son. He’ll do whatever it takes to get his little boy back....

Nadia is Billie’s best friend. Their kids attended the same school, and Billie often opened up to Nadia about her struggles as a single mother. She knows Billie’s deepest, darkest secret. She promised never to tell, but that was before the argument....

When police investigate the quiet little street, they discover everyone was whispering about Billie’s late-night callers. What was going on behind the closed door of Billie’s small home? And if someone was prepared to kill her, what do they know, and who will be next?

Fans of Angela Marsons, Cara Hunter, and Clare Mackintosh will love Her Deadly Promise–a completely gripping crime thriller that will have you hooked!

Surprise Ending

I've been a fan of Carla Kovach and her DI Gina Hart series for a long time. This was my favorite! The ending was a total shock surprise! Loved it!

Twelfth book but still fresh and exciting

The twelfth book in this series is another winner. So many possible outcomes and, when the end finally played out, I never saw it coming. I need the next book now.

Oh my goodness, I love this series!

I love all the twists & turns. This book kept me on the edge of my seat! I didn’t expect the villain to be that person, so that was an astonishing finding.

To me, a good ‘whodunit’ is when pretty much anybody in the book can be guilty. So again, this book did not disappoint.

I know this is a cryptic review, but I’m trying not to give out any details and spoil it for everybody.

As for the finale, I was staring at the phone, wishing for more. I was like, ‘Yikes, a cliffhanger’ for sure.

The one good thing about this author and narrator is that they keep me exercising, meaning because the book is interesting, I will go out for a walk or run to keep listening. This author never disappoints. She writes in a way that we can visualize being there with the characters.

I especially like the narrator this time; towards the end, she was laughing like a crazy person, which was spooky real.

Gripping

Another great whodunit with a lot of action, suspense, and build up. I love this series and look forward to the next one.

Irritating

I have enjoyed this series up to this point. One factor which has appeared in all the books, but became very irritating in this one, is the superwoman attitude of the lead character. She “will get justice”, she “will hunt down the killer” repeated frequently throughout the writing. All spoken as though she is pulling on her pants over her tights! I love Alison Campbell and search for her narration when choosing books, so it’s not a narration issue. It’s as though the genre has changed to a young teen following. I didn’t finish it and won’t be buying this author again.

not my favourite

listened to many Carla Covach .Whilst the story on the whole was quite good .
I has heartily sick of the Winging Women .
acting completely powerless and helpless .
The was it one portrayal of a powerful Intellegent Woman. As hard as I tried the narration was really difficult to listen to .
only listened to the end because I wanted to find out 'who dun it' I guess that was the good bit ...ruined by the rest

Another great drama

Never fails to deliver a great exciting thriller. Most books I can have an inkling of who has done the deadly dead, not with this author. The Narrator is one of my favourites, Allison Campbell is always a great narrator she doesn’t just read the book she adds the excitement of what she is reading. I just hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next book 13 and it goes straight onto Audible please.

Filler book…

I love Carla and this series but this book was a bit drawn out and there wasn’t much “character development”… a big cliff hanger on the end, immediately wanting me to read the next book. But I feel like this book could be skipped in the series and you wouldn’t notice when reading the next

Too long and drawn out 😒

Got sick of hearing how hot the weather was...not relevant in my opinion. The story was pretty basic and just went on and on, I was glad to finish it really. Nothing else to say as I can't find any positives 🤨

Confusing

Although the storey wasn’t too bad , I found the same voices for each character confusing & so whiney, I wasn’t sure who was supposed to be speaking.
