Publisher's Summary

"A damned fine tale." (David Farland, New York Times best-selling author)

Demons don't always hide in the dark.

Prison psychologist Eva Ross has dealt with her share of sinners. The corrupt, the insane; their minds were all hers to unlock. But when those around her start to show the same characteristics, she is forced to turn to a stranger for help.

Together with the mysterious Madden Scott, she enters a new reality. As the world around her shifts, secrets barely hidden under the surface are revealed.

In an adventure that takes them through nightmares and across continents, Eva and Madden enter the shadowy world of Anges de la Resurrection des Chevaliers: The last barrier between earth...and what lies beneath.

What an adventure!!

Matthew Harrill has composed a gripping dark fantasy horror that captivates the readers/listeners with its originality, descriptive narrative, and intensity. The premise is brilliant, good versus evil, with macabre paranormal elements inspired by religion, unquestionably a creative and a chilling approach by the author. The storyline is a riveting, fast-paced adventure, loaded with suspense, action, blood, and gore with unforeseen twists and turns. The ending is terrific, makes you want to jump right into the second book.

The main characters, Eva and Madden, are well-rounded, dynamic, three-dimensional with depth to their personalities. The connection and interaction between them are engaging, further immersing the audience.

The narration by Matthew Crow is excellent. He captures the characters' dispositions, the animation, and suspense found in the pages, bringing the entirety of the story to life. Overall, this was a fantastic listen, it's well-written, exciting with great plot and characters, and I recommend it. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Nice apocalypse

In this, book one, good work on the back stories and setting stage on what will be a great series. I usually am not a big fan or religious fiction, but this is a great exception. Demons, a secret organization fighting them, paranormal activities. And to top it off, random citizens eating a little girl...great literary vision and the narrator was spot on. I look forward to more books in this series.

Interesting

This book started out very intriguing but then I became a little confused and it took time for me to make sense of what was happening. The book is intriguing but a little long. I received this book at my request and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Interesting story

I found the story quite interesting but rather confusing, I felt that the narrator may have been the cause of this confusion as Mr Crow's narration was quite stilted in places and rather faster than I could keep track of. Reading the book myself may have resulted in a better experience.

The story starts off with Eva having a normal day at the psychiatric hospital where she works, however, upon her return home, she finds her husband has lost his mind and she has to flee, things get totally bizarre from this point onwards and Eva teams up with Maddon (from the prologue) it's all quite entertaining but it gets more and more confusing as Eva and Maddon travel further and further afield in their attempts to escape the mad people chasing them who are, in fact, demonically posessed rather than simply insane.
