Hekate's Chalice

“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started listening to this book but the characters pulled me right in. JB takes over the business for his dad and everyone that works there has something "special" about them. I loved the characters, they are humorous and it has a great plot. If all of the books are like this one...the series is going to be a great read!

Great story

BOOK REVIEW...........
This author is new to me and I have to say that what attracted me to her book was the cover. I'm glad it did. I really liked these characters and the story was seriously good. I recommend it.

NARRATOR REVIEW..........
The narrator wasn't that good. I found her voice to be a bit irritating at times.

The Chalice

It wasn't a bad story and it flowed well. I found some of the characters frustrating at times. The narration was... interesting. Some of the voices sounded a little too similar to other characters for me... and at times, a little robotic. Overall, a nice story.

Hekate's Chalice

I didn't know what to expect when I started this audio book. It's a nice introduction to the series and characters. I really liked JB's grandfather. The narrator was okay. She was a little slow in her delivery. I received this audio book for free from Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

Easy listen, fun story

This is the second book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. These books each have a complete mystery with a conclusion, but the overall characters and background story are what link the books as a series. Therefore, each can be read as a stand alone but are better rounded together. Nice, easy entertainment.

JB has taken on his father’s detective agency. JB is part elf on his mother’s side, demon on his father’s side and uses that to his advantage to try and return Hekate’s stolen chalice (she is the leader of a local coven of witches). He doesn’t work alone...among his coworkers are a sister and brother pair, and fairy who is working for him as part of her punishment. Their friendly animosity is entertaining.

This is the second book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Elisabeth Lagelee). She narrates with a slower cadence so I found I had to increase the speed to make it regular speaking speed. Despite this, she does very well narrating. She uses different voices for all the characters and adds personality to each one.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

Fantasy mystery story

The story itself was great I really enjoyed it, the narrator on the other hand drove me nuts at times. I just didn't care for her for the most part. At times I felt like this was a children's book.

JB owns a failing investigators office. He is looking to prove his worth and also to make a name for himself that does involve the family. When someone steals Hekate's Chalice he is hired to find it.

The story involves Fairies, Demons, and magic. Hekate’s Chalice is the first volume of the Adept Solutions series. I would love to her more of this series but can't gt past the narrator. A different narrator would be awesome. I may have to read the rest of the series.

Victoria Palmer's Review

Though a story involving demons is not my usual forte, Hekate's Chalice was imaginative and well done. Charmingly narrated by Elisabeth Lagelee. J.B. is a great main character supported by a cast of characters that linger on your mind like old friends. Magically imaginative and well done.

A Good Story Worth Listening To

This is a paranormal PI story. The characters are easy to get to know and like. The story has a good plot and decent buildup. I would have liked it a bit longer but it is overall a good listen. The narrator does well with the character voices but her voice is on the flat side when reading every thing else. I would definitely give a listen to the next book in this series.

short but decent story

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a great urban fantasy, PI-type story. The characters were engaging and the story was well paced and entertaining. The narration is pretty decent. She did an ok job giving the various characters their own voice. She was a little monotone, but not so much as to be a problem. Honestly, my biggest complaint is that the book is far too short. At only 3 hours, I just didn't feel like it was enough. I would have liked to have had more time to get into the world Teagan Kearney is building. In summery, it's good, decently narrated, but really short. So, keep that in mind when considering the book.

Good introduction to a new series

Another Urban Fantasy novel centred around the role of Private Investigator would seem to be fairly unoriginal, but it mostly works due to the varied cast which isn't focused on the more usual supernatural creatures. The story is entertaining enough and serves to introduce this cast of characters very well, thus providing a good foundation for future books in the series.

The narrator's tone seemed a little too subdued and probably didn't enhance the overall story as much as possible, but she did do a good job with making the characters distinctive enough.

Overall, a quick and entertaining listen that makes me interested in subsequent books in the series.
