Intrepid hero Cork O'Connor faces the most harrowing mission of his life when a charter plane carrying his wife, Jo, goes missing in a snowstorm over the Wyoming Rockies. Months after the tragedy, two women show up on Cork's doorstep with evidence that the pilot of Jo's plane was not the man he claimed to be. It may not be definitive proof, but it's a ray of light in the darkness.

Agreeing to investigate, Cork travels to Wyoming, where he battles the interference of local law enforcement who may be on the take, the open hostility of the Northern Arapaho, who have much to lose if the truth is known, and the continuing attempts on his life by assassins who shadow his every move. At the center of all the danger and deception lies the possibility that Jo's disappearance was not the end of her, that somewhere along the labyrinthine path of his search, maybe even in the broad shadow of Heaven's Keep itself, Cork will find her alive and waiting for him.

Author not afraid to write the hard thing into the narrative without the typical lachrymose crescendo. Well done, sir.

WOW. Didn't see THAT coming!

The attention to detail was superb. The author kept you there all the time. I love the O’Connor family!

I absolutely love his books. I feel like I’m standing right there next to the characters. I can see everything is going on. He is such a great description and I love the author. Thank you for another great book.

I was in the edge of my seat until the very end. I enjoyed it very much.

Suspenseful

I’ve loved the Cork O’Conner stories by William Kent Krueger. I really enjoy the stories of the indigenous peoples, in all of their complexities.

I had a really hard time with this book because of David Chandler’s monotonous and unemotional narration. Even when someone is facing death, uncertainty, or an excruciating broken heart, they all sound like they’re ordering coffee.

Narrators should be adding to the book’s interpretation, not be a cause for the listener to keep looking at how much longer one has to still listen.

I’m not sure I can bear listening to another book narrated by David Chandler. He has strengths as a narrator, but this book series isn’t it. He’d be great narrating business books, or something that doesn’t call for any emotion.

Not my favorite Cork O’Conner story
