Publisher's summary

Welcome to Haunted Liverpool 36—another volume of extraordinary strange but true stories from the files of Tom Slemen, the internationally known and respected investigator of the unknown and the supernatural.

In this latest addition in the cult series of Haunted Liverpool books, you will listen about the security guard on his night-time rounds who was tempted to join three entities disguised as beautiful beguiling women, and you will also learn what happened to a poor couple who could not afford to marry when they entered a very unusual wedding gowns shop in St John’s Precinct.

Listen about the sinister ancient beings known as the Hadeans, who cast a long shadow down the ages, and discover the fate of a woman who discovered she had a terrifying unearthly life form buried in her back garden. Enjoy the shock a couple receive when they install an old confession box in their home, and delve into the mystery of the Five Emilies.

Be thrilled by the tale of the girl returning from a night out, who was stalked by a ghostly highwayman, and of the couple having an affair that decided to rendezvous in a cemetery and encountered a very famous ghost. You will be unnerved by the account of a mysterious creepy nun, who visits people and knows their darkest secrets, and you will be fascinated by the many timeslips that hint at a very controversial political future for Britain.

Some of the tales are very bizarre but frightening, including the story of the weird Inca Bar that almost results in two men having their hearts cut out, the intriguing stories of “time travel refugees” who hide in the past, and the unearthly story of the nocturnal Nine Green Ladies. There’s a whole chapter on witchcraft concerning Rhea and her Sisters, the sad tale of the brave uncle, a mystery concerning a woman called Whiston Mary, and a moving tale of Miss Mercer—a tragically lonely ghost. You will learn to stay clear of the “Blessed Coins,” and you will have your mind stretched by the story of “The Figment.” All of this plus dozens of more stories in the ever popular series.

Couldn’t put it down

Love EVERYTHING about this book! The performance (narration) is as good as the stories. I wish I had an endless supply of the books in this series. I have every one that’s been released and have listened to each one at least a dozen times. The stories are all so fascinating! Please don’t stop producing these audiobooks. Please! I look forward to them so much and they never disappoint.

A Mesmerizing Journey through the Supernatural

Author Tom Slemen weaves a tapestry of the extraordinary and the inexplicable, inviting listeners on a thrilling exploration of the unknown. Narrated by the exceptionally talented Nigel Peever, whose voice resonates like a haunting melody, the audiobook is a mesmerizing compilation of strange but true stories that transcend the boundaries of the paranormal. As a longtime enthusiast of supernatural tales, I found this latest addition to the cult series to be a captivating odyssey into the uncharted territories of the eerie and mysterious.

One of the highlights of this spectral anthology is "The Enigma of Philip's Gowns," a rare gem among tales that adds a touch of levity to the eerie atmosphere. The whimsical narrative introduces us to an overly friendly shopkeeper, creating a delightful divergence from the spine-chilling stories that dominate the collection. The story unfolds with an inexplicable occurrence, as a woman seeking a wedding dress is guided by the affable shopkeeper through a maze of otherworldly gowns. It's a refreshing deviation, showcasing Tom Slemen's versatility in storytelling. Nigel Peever's narration, with its perfect blend of suspense and humor, amplifies the enchantment of this delightful interlude, making it a standout in the audiobook.

In the sprawling landscape of "Haunted Liverpool 36," the longest story, "Tales of the Time Barrier," emerges as a personal favorite. As an avid fan of narratives involving time slips, time travel, and the eternal mysteries of lost time, this chapter resonated deeply with my fascination for the enigmatic concept of temporal anomalies. Slemen's intricate storytelling delves into the complexities of time, leading listeners on a journey through the corridors of the past, present, and future. Nigel Peever's narration enhances the suspense, and his command over pacing elevates the overall experience, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. This chapter doesn't merely meet expectations—it surpasses them, delivering a narrative that transcends the boundaries of time itself.

What sets "Haunted Liverpool 36" apart is its eclectic mix of tales, offering a smorgasbord of supernatural phenomena beyond the usual realms of ghosts or UFOs. Slemen's ability to seamlessly transition from the sinister allure of the Hadeans to the peculiarities of a wedding gown shop in St John’s Precinct showcases the audiobook's versatility. Each story unfolds like a Pandora's box, revealing a new facet of the inexplicable, keeping listeners eagerly anticipating what lies beyond the next narrative twist. The variety in themes and the seamless integration of historical elements, folklore, and contemporary experiences make this audiobook a treasure trove for those who crave diversity in their supernatural escapades.

Nigel Peever's narration deserves special commendation, transforming each story into an immersive experience. His voice, reminiscent of horror icons like Boris Karloff or Vincent Price, lends an air of authenticity to the macabre tales. The strategic use of music and sound effects further elevates the audiobook, creating an atmospheric symphony that heightens the emotional impact of each narrative. Peever's skillful narration not only communicates the essence of the stories but also adds a layer of artistry, making "Haunted Liverpool 36" a masterpiece in auditory storytelling.

"Haunted Liverpool 36" is a spellbinding journey through the realms of the unknown, skillfully narrated by Nigel Peever. Tom Slemen's ability to weave together a diverse tapestry of supernatural tales, coupled with Peever's captivating narration, makes this audiobook an essential addition to the library of any enthusiast of the paranormal. From the whimsical to the bone-chilling, each story leaves an indelible mark, ensuring that the listener is forever haunted by the echoes of the inexplicable.
