Hattie and Ed

The blurb for this book starts with: When Hattie Stout boards the train bound for the western frontier, she doesn't think things can get any worse. Her father lost his fortune and made her a pariah in New York society. Then, the man she was engaged to marry, backed out of the arrangement to marry his cousin. When her parents decide there is nothing left to do but send her west as a Mail Order Bride, she thinks she's hit rock bottom. She's wrong!

The story starts with the stage Hattie is traveling on being attacked by outlaws and she finds herself in an even worse situation when she arrives in the small mining town and finds that her groom is not there to meet her, she has no money because of the holdup and is left on the street. Fortunately for her the sheriff of the town, Ed Milton, takes pity on her, he feeds her and finds her somewhere to stay.

Ed is from the South and is a perfect gentleman, he is happy with where his life has taken him and the life he has made for himself but Hattie has dreams of going home but in order to do so she will have to earn her train fare and pay for her board and lodgings, no easy feat for a woman who has been pampered her entire life. Hattie, however, has an incredibly strong inner core and is determined to do this. There are a few things which could stop her from achieving this goal, the outlaws, the sheriff's deputy and the fact that she is falling in love with the sheriff.

This story did not lag at all it flowed beautifully and held my attention the whole way through - I loved the narration of this book it was so well done, each character was individually defined and there was never any confusion as to who was speaking - well done Meghan Kelly for the narration and Vivi Holt for the story.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

Exciting Mail Order Bride Story

Hattie, the fourth book in the Cowboy and Debutantes series by Vivi Holt is another delightful take on the mail order bride genre. In this story New York debutante Hattie Stout is sent from her home by her father when her wealthy fiancé dumps her after the family faces financial hardship. As a last resort, Hattie’s family ships her off to a small mining town out west as a “mail order bride.” Unfortunately, her intended is a criminal who robbed the stage coach she was traveling in!

After her harrowing experience on the stage coach, Hattie befriends Sheriff Ed Milton, who helps her find a place to stay and a job. Although Hattie experiences a parade of horribles with her intended throughout this story, she eventually receives her happily ever after.

Narrator Meghan Kelly did a wonderful job of making the characters come to life. She provided different voices for all characters, and she expressed urgency in all the right placed. I’m really looking forward to listening to the next audiobook narrated by Meghan Kelly.

Love this series

Ms. Holt knows how to draw her reader in with these short story. I couldn’t even begin to think how these girls felt losing everything from their families money to the life as they know it all to be sent to marry a man they didn’t know. My heart really went out to them. I listened to this in a box set seeing how each girl had to deal with her own issues. They show how strong they are, what they are willing to do, to make a new life for them. As things start going well there is news from home that may change each girls feelings on their new life.

The narrator did a wonderful job really making you feel the emotion of each girl as she goes through some very trying times. Things are easy for these woman who give so much of their selves. The character voices are wonderful, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. Her male and female voices are given with strength and character. There are no repeating of words, no background noise, no volume changes. If breaks were taken I could not tell. This is one narrator I know I will enjoy listening to each time I pick up one of her new audios. I really look forward to listening to her voice.

I really enjoyed the twists and turns as the author hooks you from the first page to the last. It doesn’t take long for these woman to feel tragedy one thing leads to another as the author spins a delightful tale with action, broken hearts, tragedy and a love that will warm your heart. It is a short sweet Christian romance filled with excitement.

In Losing One Gains

This historical adventure brings two strong characters Hattie Stout and Sheriff Ed Milton as the romantic love interest. Hattie’s family upon losing their financial holdings places their security upon making a wealthy love match that denigrates when the intended backs out to marry another. As a last resort, Mattie’s family decides to have her go west and become a “mail order bride.” Sheriff Ed Milton, a bachelor within a small mining community is drawn to Hattie when she arrives in the small town via stagecoach. Although captivated by her appearance, he is taken aback by what seems to be her apparent wealth.
Narration done by Meghan Kelly was engaging with good voice quality. Her voice inflection was appropriate to what was occurring within the storyline. Speech was clear and easily understood with the right amount of pausing for story emphasis. Her diction was emotionally expressive which is significant to those that listen to an audio in order to maintain interest. She was able to provide a rhythmic, bright voice that was conducive to the listener’s ability to be able to visually picture events based upon her description. This audio is worth consideration and its performance was very good. I received access to this audio for purpose of review however the insights and opinions were not solicited but of my own personal account.

AWESOME!

This is a really great western romance story, beautifully written by Vivi Holt and beautifully narrated by Meghan Kelly. A great duo!

I thought the story was awesome, and really flowed well, and I was very engrossed in the characters and the story, not only because of the writing, but also because of Meghan's awesome narration.

I love Hattie, she's a spunky gal and I love to listen to her do her thing. Fun listen!! Great story :)

Hattie

Hattie's family has lost their fortune and have decided to ship her off out west as a mail order bride. Only they don't realize they have agreed to marry her to an outlaw. After being robbed she is stuck with nothing and living in the back of a bar working for room and board, hoping to save enough to return home. The story is filled with adventure and struggles of the time. Meghan Kelly does a super job with the narration.

Laetitia

The story was quite enjoyable. I usually avoid these type of books.
I wanted to slap Hattie few times because she was quite silly sometimes.
Yes this book contained mild violence, but nothing too dramatic. Although it’s not the longest book it didn’t feel short.

I received this book for review purposes.

Clean read

This could be read as a standalone. There were times I felt like slapping Hattie for what she did but then again she would be out of character if she did anything else.
There is some violence but I would say it more mild. I have read books that are more discriptive. There is no sexual content or profanity.

Awesome Listen!

Vivi Holt has written a wonderful series of riches to rags set in the old west. I find it refreshing when an author writes a clean romance that has substance. The storyline is original, and the characters have depth. I thought the narration by Meghan Kelly was wonderful. She added the right emotions and had distinguishable voices for the characters. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Another 5 star book

I really enjoyed this book, but I thought that Hattie was't realistic about hler situation. Her Father had lost all his money and sent her west as a Mail Order Bride. From what I gathered she had no imput in it, yet every time she was down all she talked about was going home to New York. If my Father had dealt with me that way, I don't bellieve I would be in any rush to return. I did enjoy the fact that, although Hattie had to live in a saloon for a time, itt was still a clean book.
