James B. Jordan
Acerca de esta escucha
Who can make sense of the book of Revelation?
Actually, James Jordan can explain it—not in all of its mystical intrigue and many-layered prophecies—but in at least one solid interpretation. Many people lament that they have never read a single take that makes sense. This real-life explanation can get one started in unraveling the enigmatic book.
Volume Three “Harlot & Bride" covers the last third of Revelation and explores the dark theme of the whore of Babylon followed by the bright and light-filled description of the bride, the New Jerusalem, with its gems, pearls, and clear gold streets and walls.
James B. Jordan has never held a full-time academic position. He moonlighted as an editor. These lectures were given over a four-year period to a Sunday school class where he served as an assistant pastor at a small church in Niceville, Florida. And yet, Peter Leithart (PhD Cambridge) and R.R. Reno (PhD Yale, First Things Editor) call Jordan “one of the leading Christian intellectuals of his generation.”
Dean W. Arnold is an author and screenwriter. His script on J. R. R. Tolkien was endorsed by the Oxford C. S. Lewis Society. Pulitzer winner Jon Meacham called his book Old Money, New South “well worth reading.” He grew up talking theology around the dinner table with his father, a pastor with a doctorate from Dallas Theological Seminary. Today, Dean is tonsured “The Reader Gabriel” for the Orthodox Church in America.

The centuries after the Protestant Reformation brought about a radical reinterpretation of the epistles of St. Paul, disconnected from any historical reality. But Paul operated, during his entire life, as a faithful Pharisee within the Roman Jewish world. In Saint Paul the Pharisee: Jewish Apostle to All Nations, Fr. Stephen De Young surveys Paul’s life and writings, interpreting them within the Holy Tradition of the Orthodox Church.

The Great Commission involves not merely witnessing to the nations but discipling them. God's purpose is to fill the earth with His glory, bringing about a Christianized world, where each nation follows King Jesus. God will accomplish this through the faithful witness of His Church as He blesses the preaching of the gospel and the teaching of His Word. By the blessing of His Spirit, a true unity of confession will be established among all the nations to the end that every nation and language will praise Him (Rev. 7:9).

Romans is more than a collection of proof texts for Reformed theology. It is an exposition of God's plan to take back the world. In this new commentary, Douglas Wilson tackles Paul's meaty letter passage by passage, explaining Paul's central message: Jesus’s death and resurrection have transformed the world. God has brought an end to the old covenant and ushered in a new covenant, joining Jews and Gentiles in one new people.

Although the book of Revelation is said to give a blessing to those who read and hear it, it often results in confusion as well. Revelation is applicable to all times and occasions in the Church, and because of that it has been interpreted as predicting many different events in history. Naturally, these interpretations all contradict each other which leads many believers to decide that efforts to understand it are a waste of time.

Whenever the heroes from the Bible are trotted out in Sunday school, people are quick to point out their flaws and failings, going straight to the moral of the story rather than paying attention to what the text actually says. In this short but adventurous book, Jordan shows that the Biblical narratives are about so much more than Sunday School lessons and that in fact the patriarchs are not held up for us as examples of failure or sin, but are rather are great moral exemplars.

The best stories subtly weave themes and characters and symbols into a stunning final tapestry. For many Christians, sadly, the Old Testament is merely a jumble of moralistic stories and weird rituals, genealogies, and historical chronicles. What is the point of it all, and what does it have to do with Jesus? In this short and easy to listen audiobook, Leithart gives a sweeping overview of the Bible, its stories, and the patterns and symbols that recur throughout it, highlighting the ways many of the little stories look forward to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus himself.

Christ conquered the West the first time. And this is how he’ll do it again. And when he does it again, Christians must be ready to take the lead. Jesus really is the answer to taxes, civil resistance, and speech laws. However, Christians do not need another political platform. They need a plan. This book is that plan.

Rev. Dr. Stephen De Young, creator of the popular The Whole Counsel of God blog and podcast, traces the lineage of Orthodox Christianity back to the faith and witness of the apostles, which was rooted in a first-century Jewish worldview. The Religion of the Apostles presents the Orthodox Christian Church of today as a continuation of the religious life of the apostles, which in turn was a continuation of the life of the people of God since the beginning of creation.
