JAMES B. JORDAN has never held a full-time academic position. He moonlighted as an editor. These lectures were given over a four-year period to a Sunday school class where he served as an assistant pastor at a small church in Niceville, Florida. And yet, Peter Leithart (PhD Cambridge) and R.R. Reno (PhD Yale, First Things Editor) call Jordan "one of the leading Christian intellectuals of his generation."
DEAN W. ARNOLD is an author and screenwriter. His script on J. R. R. Tolkien was endorsed by the Oxford C. S. Lewis Society. Pulitzer winner Jon Meacham called his book Old Money, New South "well worth reading." He grew up talking theology around the dinner table with his father, a pastor with a doctorate from Dallas Theological Seminary. Today, Dean is tonsured "The Reader Gabriel" for the Orthodox Church in America.

These lectures were given over a four-year period to a Sunday school class where he served as an assistant pastor at a small church in Niceville, Florida.

Although the book of Revelation is said to give a blessing to those who read and hear it, it often results in confusion as well. Revelation is applicable to all times and occasions in the Church, and because of that it has been interpreted as predicting many different events in history. Naturally, these interpretations all contradict each other which leads many believers to decide that efforts to understand it are a waste of time.

Whenever the heroes from the Bible are trotted out in Sunday school, people are quick to point out their flaws and failings, going straight to the moral of the story rather than paying attention to what the text actually says. In this short but adventurous book, Jordan shows that the Biblical narratives are about so much more than Sunday School lessons and that in fact the patriarchs are not held up for us as examples of failure or sin, but are rather are great moral exemplars.

Orderly and Concise compilation
I love Jim Jordan and have gone through his 204 part Rev series twice. What’s great about his series is the rabbit trails. I would recommend listening for the rabbit trails alone. However Revelation itself does tend to get a little overwhelmed. And for that reason it’s hard to steer the less dedicated toward it. This book renders it to a more concise version but doesn’t lose all of the key points the rabbit trails bring out. So now I can more easily recommend and share Jordan’s take on Revelation without asking people to commit 144 hours.
