Publisher's summary

Happy Singlehood charts a way forward for singles to live life on their terms, and shows how everyone - single or coupled - can benefit from accepting solo living.

Based on personal interviews, quantitative analysis, and extensive review of singles' writings and literature, author Elyakim Kislev uncovers groundbreaking insights on how unmarried people create satisfying lives in a world where social structures and policies are still designed to favor marriage.

In this carefully crafted book, Kislev investigates how singles nurture social networks, create innovative communities, and effectively deal with discrimination. Happy Singlehood challenges listeners to rethink how single people organize social and familial ties in new ways, and illuminates how educators, policymakers, and urban planners should cater to their needs.

Critic reviews

"A breath of fresh air . . . Kislev brilliantly shows us that singles can be very happy in the modern world and that public policy must adapt.” (Jocelyn Crowley, author of Gray Divorce)

Helpful Book!

The performance is a bit odd, as other reviewers have noticed, and took me a bit of getting used to. But his enthusiasm for doing accents is truly worth it.

The voice artist had a repetitive lilt

The book itself contained information that fascinated me but I found the voice artist made some unfortunate choices.
He had a constant rhythmical lilt to his voice that was almost robotic and often distracted from the author's extensive and valuable work.

The voice artist lacked spontaneous or natural inflexion and I didn't feel convinced he was fully invested in the story he was telling. He sounded very much like someone reading something aloud, which is something that a voice artist should strive to transcend, in my opinion.

He has a lovely timbre to his voice and excellent enunciation so that listening to him would have been a pleasure otherwise but he just lacked that natural way of speaking that would have greatly assisted in the communication of such complex and rich ideas.

His accents, when he chose to do them, were very good but only some of the characters got accents and vocal characterisation and texture at all, whilst with other characters, he made no attempt to characterise at all. It created an inconsistent and, again, distracting quality to the recording.

I would've preferred to spend more time marvelling over the contents of the book and less time having to consider the skill of the person who was reading it to me. I think he would make an excellent lecturer or news anchor but will not be my first choice to read an audiobook again.

Excellent

Just the kind of information that I was looking for! What a great book I mean there’s not many on single people at all and it really did explore like all the different areas I really didn’t even know or think about. It was excellent
