Publisher's summary

Another difficult case for DCI John Gammon. The sleepy villages of the Peak District are the backdrop to a game being played by a serial killer. Hangman a game we all played as a child is now being used in a sinister way. Bixton police are up against time. The killers has one ultimate victim but many people could die if Gammon and his team can't guess the name of the ultimate victim.

Possibly one of DCI Gammon's most difficult cases and there have been many, with this book being Series five, Book one.

It's ok

This is a first book for me from this author and this narrator. I usually love DCI books, but this one is definitely not my favorite.
First, I did not like DCI John Gammon in the slightest. He has zero morals regarding the women he is supposed to be committed to or the one he supposedly loves. (2 different women). And let's not even talk about him sleeping with one of his co worker's fiance and then wife. He is also a terrible DCI and unable to even follow the clues...even when given to him.
The story lacked any realistic validity. I felt that it was more about John's 'relationships' rather than the mystery of the murders.
The ending, had no flair. The guy was killed. and life moved on. The End.
The narrator was very good. She told the story well and her ability to play the characters is excellent.
I recommend the narrator, but, unfortunately, I cannot recommend the book.

Light but well worth the read

A pleasant listen. No bad language or graphic violence and no explicit sexual content 3 big pluses in my opinion.
A cosy british police mystery .
That is well worth a listen, I am looking forward to more in the series.

okay

It seems I am not as enamored with John Gammon as several other reviewers were. I suppose his womanizing, low personal integrity and lack of morales has jaundiced my opinion. He finally came through to solve this in the end but what a body count he let pile up first!!! It was okay in my opinion. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was okay, no different voices for males or females attempted.

Game Plan

Interesting use of the game Hangman by a killer for the police to rescue the last victim
