Pure Halloween Fun

Any additional comments?

For the fun/light side of Halloween, I highly recommend the Halloween Party Book Set! Three fun tales by James Livingood make for a lovely listen. Frankenstein IT Support was my favorite story and all three stories were narrated with style. This book was a wonderful change of pace!

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Great Sampling of Mr. Livingood’s Work

Mr. Livingood is a new author for me and as a collection I was truly anticipating the stories would be of a similar type. However, each of the stories included in this collection is very unique in genera and storytelling, though each provides another side of a more traditional Halloween character.

The first was likely my favorite, because it is humorous and easy to relate to. It takes a fictional character and puts him into a not so fictional setting – hilarity ensues. It read like a quick, funny short story and provided the humanity of Frankenstein. Mr. Gilboe did a great job with the voices, cadence and added sound effects.

The second story was also funny and in the same line as the first, provided a day job for a swamp monster. Mr. Bennett did an amazing job with the voice to make you feel like you were in a southern swamp.
The third story was quite a bit different to me. It read more as a novella with more character development, backstory and not as much humor.

In all it is a great collection and showcases Mr. Livingood’s diverse writing style, while keeping in the spirit of Halloween.

I was provided with a free copy of this audio book for my honest review. The views expressed here are entirely my own.

Halloween Party Book Set

In this audio there are three stories told:

"Frankenstein: IT Support"--imagine what would happen if Frankenstein became an IT support person.
"Swamp Monster Voodoo"--imagine the swamp monster being into voodoo
"Vampire Caving" --imagine a vampire camping out in a cave and learning about man.

Each story is hilarious in it's storyline. New info about the monsters that we have all come to know and love. As I listened to them all i could picture was each monster as portrayed by the movie greats back in the 30s and 40s. Boris Karloff, Bela Lagosi and John Agar in the swamp creature. To hear these stories and picture these greats voicing the lines makes the heart soar with laughter and wonder.

Fantastic audio and stories!!!

Quirky Fun

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

I liked all of the short stories. IT Frankenstein was my favorite. I am still giggling about the "satellite not working with the TV" I thought all the narrators did a good job. I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

Perfect listen for Halloween!

3 great stories by a great author. Gilboe and Bennett are two of my favorite narrators. They deliver an amazing rendition of the tale and the characters. I already have the vampire caving and swamp voodoo but was happy to get Frankenstein IT and the collection together made for great listening on Halloween. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Monsters have problems, too.

I wasn't crazy about the first story. I felt for poor Adam, the ever patient IT monster, but it dragged on a bit long and I got bored with it before the end. The other two stories were much more interesting. Swamp Monster Voodoo was very amusing with a clever twist. Vampire Caving was a more serious story than the other two, but an interesting one. This vampire wants to know how his kind came to be and since he is immortal, he has a long time to search for the answers. This is not your average vampire tale. The narrators for all three were well chosen. There were little bits of music at the beginning of each story and while I don't usually like music or sound effects in audio books, it seemed to fit this group of stories well and I didn't mind it.

Halloween Party Book Set

This is a really fun set of stories:"Frankenstein: IT Support" narrated with great details by Michael Gilboe,is just how Frankenstine would be as a phone tech! I found it very enjoyable.

"Swamp Monster Voodoo",narrated by J Scott Bennett, with southern flair,is an educational story about things that will work and won't work on his kind and other boogey men.It also stresses that debts must be paid.A great read!

"Vampire Caving",narrated brilliantly by Bryan Patrick Jones,Is a look at the Vampire Hierarchy and how each plays its part so things run smoothly. One Vampire is searching a cave where very old Vampire evidence has been found. He may just find more than he bargained on!

A good holiday collection for family fun.

This audiobook contains three short stories, Frankenstein: IT Support, Swamp Monster Vodoo, and Vampire Caving.

Frankenstein: IT Support – Adam, Frankenstein’s monster, has survived to the modern times and works in IT at McTech. Through out the day, Adam answers several IT calls and deals with socially awkward coworkers. The pacing of this story was pretty slow, mimicking how boring Adam’s job is. The jokes came in two flavors – those about Adam and his love of ingesting electricity, and those about IT work and the dumb questions consumers call in with. There were also a few puns thrown in. I found the humor very predictable and therefore, it fell flat for me. Perhaps this story would go over well with small kids.

Swamp Monster Vodoo – The Swamp Monster was taken in by a vodoo master, who mentored him in the magic and in the cheat. They were partners of a sort, providing info from the other side to family members seeking lost treasure in the swamp. However, very soon into the story, the two must part ways. Swamp Monster, being large, green, and a little smelly, sets up a little cabin in the swamp. Pretty soon he is providing favors to the dead in exchange for buried treasure. Yet he doesn’t take into account that a certain ghost may be after something more. This was a pretty clever tale. I liked that it started off in on e place, and that gave me certain expectations, but ended in a completely different place. I quite enjoyed the journey between the two.

Vampire Caving – Bernie and Richard are turned in to vampires the 1920s by some nameless, yet pretty, woman who took them home one night after drinks. Then the story skips ahead to modern times. Bernie is a Hot Head, exploring the world and trying not to get burned by the sun. Meanwhile, Richard became a Doomsdayer, one of those vampires that prefers to set up a fancy nest and never leave. The Hot Heads provide new tech and knowledge to the Doomsdayers and the Doomsdayers treat the Hot Heads like royalty. Bernie continues to seek out the origins of vampires. He’s put a lot into it – studying history and languages. Richard has dug up a possible lead and hands that off to Bernie. The clue is a cave and Bernie suits up and starts exploring. What Bernie finds in the cave is totally unexpected – but him or me! But I really liked what the story did with this mystery cave. In fact, I am going to say there is some pretty beautiful myth building that goes on in this tale. I was impressed.

I received a copy of this audiobook at no cost from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The Narration: Michael Gilboe did a good job being Adam, Frankenstein’s monster, and ponderously moving through the day. He came off as lovable lummox and I felt that was and exact match for the text. J. Scott Bennett had a great voice for the Swamp Monster, bringing a bayou twang to it. I especially liked his voice for Granma Rose. Brian Patrick Jones did a really good job with the story Vampire Cave. I liked his voices for what Bernie found in the cave. The intro and the little bit at the end after the completion of Vampire Caving were both in lower volume for some reason. That’s my only little quibble with the audio production. Each story came with it’s own little bits of music and I quite liked this little touch.

Great short stories for Halloween!

My rating: 4.5 stars (why can’t I leave half star ratings…)
Audiobook narrators rating: 5 stars

This is a great party pack of books in time for the Halloween season. They are all short and fun as well as lighthearted. I would highly recommend them for the month of October and beyond.

I like how we get to see further into James Livingood’s imagination and I keep wondering what he will write on next!

The narrators (all three) of these books were fantastic and really help the stories come to life. I look forward to more books from James and stories read by these narrators. You can read my individual reviews on each of these books in Goodreads.

Thanks for the books, James!

funny and cute

Really enjoyed listening to the short collection and so did my kids. It was nice having them playing in the background while we did Halloween crafts.

It was nice having three different narrators to bring each book to life and helped with showing the different tones in the books. Michael Gilboe, Scott Bennett and Bryan Patrick Jones all did an excellent job with this book.

Rib-shakingly Good!

I've listened to quite a few of these Halloween audiobooks lately, especially while volunteering at the local Youth Club, we used this as our Halloween After Schools Story Time this week on the run up to half term, it was so good we immediately got Halloween Party 2. It's told by multiple narrators, and the definite favorite was Frankinstein: IT Support.

Good for 4years to adults with a sense of humour.

Meh...

I really enjoyed the Frankenstein: IT short. It was funny and cute, and brought me back to my old days as a customer service rep. Couldn’t get into the Swamp Monster story and already heard Vampire Cavings in a Trilogy. The Narrator for each did a pretty decent job.

"Have a magical day."

Story:
This is a compilation of three stories.

In "Frankenstein IT Support" the famous monster works nowadays in a call center and we listen in on his customer calls. He is actually quite good at his job.
But a man who has been made up of parts of several humans a very, very long time ago, has understandably his very own way to deal with phone calls or computers in general.
"Swamp Monster Vodoo"
The monster can see and talk to the dead. He tries to make a living out of it, but that isn't all that easy and straightforward as he had hoped. Things go wrong and he has to flee and when he tries a different approach, he gets tricked out of his payment by and old lady ghost.
Will a dead squirrel be of any help?
"Vampire Caving"
A really good adventure tale. If you ever wanted to know the origins of vampires, here it is. No, not Transylvania, you will instead meet the Downs and the Ups and understand the meaning of "no glow".

Narration:
Superbly. Each narrator tries his best to come across as their character. The Cajun accent of the swamp monster is simply huge fun and Frankenstein is a bit of a hilarious dimwit and to the deep and very pleasant voice of the vampire story narrator, I could've listened at least for centuries and even in the daylight. Each story starts and ends with music, which totally fits the theme.

Overall:
Huge fun, fabulous storytelling and very good narration and I loved every minute of the "Halloween Party Book Set".
