Publisher's Summary

Stephanie Costas has always had a passion for humanity. As a digital forensics examiner, she fights bad guys from the technical front. When a closed cold case is dug up, she finds herself becoming consumed to set things right. No amount of '80s music or repeated viewings of her favorite movie Dirty Dancing were enough to distract her. She needed a vacation in the worst of ways.

When she set foot in the gorgeous tropical resort in Greece, she had no idea she'd meet a man claiming to be Hades, god of the Underworld. And she certainly had no idea that he was telling the truth. Her Greek vacation was about to become very...interactive.

A Hades/Persephone reimagining.

The Contemporary Mythos series will feature a different Greek god in each book, reexploring their myths and combining contemporary romance tropes. Though they will all stand alone, the stories will also intersect for those that listen to them all.

Epic Romance

Hades is a wonderfully written paranormal romance. The greek god is believable and the perfect lost soul that you are dying for the FMC to rescue. A well-written vacation in Greece has me yearning to visit there myself. Loved the salute to Dirty Dancing as well. I have now read this book twice and will happily read it again someday. There is at least one steamy scene, but if that's not your thing, you could easily skip it and not lose the story. I have read all the books written in this series to date and am venturing into other Carly Spade novels next.

Enjoyable Hades Story!!

This was a fun story! It took a little to get into it, as the story is a somewhat slow at the beginning. Though, once it picks up, it's quite delightful! Stephanie is an amusing protagonist! She's very good at her job...while at life...not so much. On occasion, simply living life for her can be a disaster from trying not to impale her eye with a straw to walking upright. Good thing there's a certain god to help her out!
I liked this take on the Hades mythology. I can't quite picture him with a Southern accent, that didn't quite work with me. He was in interesting character and I loved his willingness to help out Stephanie!
It's told in a single POV and would have loved to have had some chapters from Hades.

The narrator does a good job! I liked her voice for Stephanie. Her voice for Hades was not my favorite, but I give props to her for trying!

Baskerville Book Reviews

Hades is a slow burn with emphasis on slow. I’m personally fine with it, especially with romance. I enjoy it when the characters actually spent a bit of time getting to know each other, it makes their relationships feel more believable. I liked how the author worked in the greek setting to fit the myths, which I know nothing about. It was a nice detail that there were other guys on vacation who were involved in the story, though Stephanie only had eyes for the dark and broody Hades.

Stephanie seems a bit plain for Hades, to be honest. The way these two play off of each other kept reminding me of the Twilight books. His powers don’t seem to work on her, despite his constant mood swings and warnings to stay away, she keeps going after him, etc. I couldn’t help but notice the similarities as I was listening.

I don’t know what the trope is called; It’s the same rehashed plot point of somebody who is incredibly simple and by the books being pestered constantly by her friend to step out of her cumfort zone. you could replace most of the dialogue with that from other stories and it wouldn’t make a difference.

There were times it felt like it dragged on for too long. I kept expecting the story to end and it just kept going on and on. If you’re the type who enjoys an epilogue, this story essentially has several chapters of epilogue for you.

The audio narration isn’t anything special. The narrator did a serviceable job, but it’s hardly a standout performance. There weren’t any audible issues or glitches with the narration.

Mr. "Doom and gloom" gets his happily ever after

I must confess I first listened to Eros (the 4th book in the series, but each can be read as a stand-alone) and that was what made me want to read more in this series. I found Eros a much more fascinating character than Hades, but I guess it was to be expected: the god of love vs. the god of the underworld (all doom and gloom, of course). However... it was still good enough to keep me entertained until the end and I will definitely get the rest of the series as well! This book had a romance story as your main plot, but it also had a bit of everything: mystery, drama, emotional problems getting mended through the creation of significant relationships. I mention the last one because this is what got me hooked to this series.

The plot was surprising enough, the narration flowed nicely, the characters were very nicely built. We also get to see a bit more of the world building aspect, with a visit to Hades' Underworld. The narrator had a nice voice and she managed to bring to life each character with a unique voice/tone.

I really recommend this to whoever likes supernatural romance. If you have a preference for Greek mythology, this is definitely the series for you.

Such a fun ride!!!

Okay, so I finally got around to this book and all I want to do is binge the rest of the series!!! Holy Moly! This was such a fun ride!!! I loved how the author mixed Greek mythology and current day. I found Hades to be immediately alluring and charmingly comedic. Even though he’s the king of the underworld and is known to be a tough guy, the author does this phenomenal job with balancing the myth and digging deeper to pull out his softer, more romantic side. I absolutely loved him and felt completely connected to both him and Stephanie.

I honestly had no idea how to story was going to end and I was cheering by the last 30 minutes. I need more!!!

The writing was smooth easy to follow and the narrator was fantastic and really personified all of the characters (even Hades’s subtle southern accent).

Carly Spade…I’m now obsessed with this contemporary/Greek Myth series and I can’t wait to keep reading!!

Really enjoyable story

I really enjoyed this story. I know the bare minimum on Greek God's, and I loved that it wasn't assumed that the reader would know either. The story included quite a few gods.
Stephanie goes on holiday to Greece with her friend Sarah, where she meets Hades. Only she does realise that it's the real Hades.
I really enjoyed the way they got to know each other, and that it wasn't all instant love. Stephanie was loveable, she was a geek at heart, who was a little bit clumsy and a big nervous talker.
I really liked her 'normal' responses to finding out he's the real Hades and that the other gods actually exist, it was a nice change.
The plot is easy to follow, nothing too complicated. The ending is HEA and the epilogue ties everything up nicely.
The narrator, Stella Bloom, does a really great job with the characters and the different accents.

hades

I loved the narration of Stella Bloom

Hades, the Greek God, gets a second chance. Stephanie and her best friend go on a trip to Greece where she meets Hades. He is broody and depressed and she something different about him. She does not realize he is the real Hades either. Suspense, a matchmaking God, some drama, a touch of crazy, passion and romance. This was a nice retelling of a classic myth.

Fun Retelling

This book was good, not focusing too heavily on the reader needing to know the full greek mythology. Being british i had to laugh at the sterotypical talk of Rupert. I did feel that epilouge part of the story was not needed. Whilst it tidied things up it meant it was too tidy. And wasnt as necessary to the storyline itself.

A true love story

Wow , this story had me hooked from the first chapter. Love how Carly Sparks took a famous Greek Mythology, Hades a misunderstood Powerful Hod and wrote a modern love story . Lots of twists and turns. You see other powerful Greek gods popping in and out of the story.
Story takes place on a Greek Island and Chicago . Stephanie meets Hades at a bar at the Hotel on the Island. Hades intrigue Stephanie, and things take off from there. .
There are some scenes that will make you laugh so hard . The story is well written and leaves you wanting more! Narration was very well done, the story line flows smoothly and I love that . Stephanie decides on something that proves to Hades she truly loves him.
I highly recommend this story. Can’t wait for book 2

Stella Bloom was fantastic, she brought you into the story . You actually knew who the characters were by her tone

Loved it

I love books about Hades and this reimagining was perfect. Stephanie is a digital forensic examiner she catches villains via tech. When a cold case gets on top of her she decided she needs a holiday . When she arrives in Greece she meets Hades but she has no idea he’s the real Hades and when she comes to terms with who he really is something clicks in her . Loved listening to this there was a chemistry between Steph and Hades from their first meeting . This is my first book by Carly Spade and I’m looking forward to more in this series . Stella Bloom narrates perfectly and loved her character voices .

Great first in series

Stephanie is a digital forensic examiner for the police. When she and her best friend Sara go to Corfu on holiday. There she meets a man who says he is Hades. I takes a while for her to believe him. This is a slow burn romance with mystery, lots of romance and humour.
This is a brilliant adaptation and the choice of narrators is excellent. I look forward to listening and rewarding more by this author.

I love Hades

I absolutely adored Hades when I read the paperback so I thought I’d give the audiobook a go.

Although it was enjoyable it made things stick out more than the book did. For example all the dirty dancing references. They seemed to really have an impact in the audible than the book did and the whole ‘nobody puts Stephanie in the corner’ made me laugh at how cringe it was. It wasn’t cringy in the book so it must have been the voice that was used.

Overall, I still enjoyed it but will rate the audiobook lower than the paperback.

4 stars.

It was refreshing and a cute story

It’s wasn’t a telling of Hades & Persephone that I thought it would be (Hades is no longer with Persephone). I did enjoy the story, ending felt quite quick but good at the same time.
