Publisher's Summary

Do you have the courage to follow your dreams?

In this delightful coming-of-age memoir, Rich Israel takes off on a journey of self-discovery during the late 1960s. Renouncing societal norms, he hitchhikes across the country, works at a circus, and rides a horse hundreds of miles through the Rocky Mountain wilderness - all the while, the draft and Vietnam War are nipping at his heels.

Join Rich and his canine companion, Charlie, as they encounter one colorful character after another, from a loudmouthed carnival boss to an ax-loving dishwasher to a sultry flower child, whose bewitching powers lead to lust and longing - and heartbreak.

A consummate storyteller, Rich peppers his writing with wit and sensitivity, as well as insights often revealed through mind-blowing acid trips.

Against the backdrop of a unique period in American history, Groovin' is certain to warm your heart, bring a smile to your face, and inspire you to make every day an adventure.

Keep on truckin

The wacky overdruged oversexed over everything era is richly described by a dude that lived it.

With a good Narrator transport yourself to a period that will never be duplicated at least in this Dimension.

Not Your Average Flashback

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of Groovin' Horses, Hopes, and Slippery Slopes (The Hippie Adventurer Series, Volume 1): by Rich Israel and narrated by J. R. Moorland. I asked for this book because I needed something to listen to while on the road with my wife and 15 year old grandson. This book did not disappoint. We were quickly laughing and my wife and I were reminiscing about the good ole days. This was a very enjoyable story and we didn’t want it to end. I am anxiously awaiting another story by Rich with J.R. narrating it.

A Hippie's tale

Groovin'. I really don't know how to review this book. - Well the first couple of hours I couldn't get into it - but once the journey began this became a wonderful tale, full of humour and insight into this beautiful wilderness.
It's not a book for everyone but if you've got an open mind this is a wonderful book.
Narration is good and he paints some beautiful scenes with his voice.

Fantastic account of an epic adventure...

What an adventure! Rich Israel finds himself hitch hiking across the US, often high on acid (as many were in the 60's!), and on the lookout for plenty of love! Conscious of the Vietnam draft.. Israel, a friend and their two dogs head off on a horseback ride of around 500 miles to Aspen in Colorado. The beauty of their surroundings, the sense of mother nature's power and the tranquility of the wilderness are all superbly described. It's an area of the US that holds great interest to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip across Colorado and the Rocky Mountains. This is a book I'll return to again, and would definitely recommend it to anyone as a thoroughly enjoyable account of one man's adventure. The bond formed with their animals during the month long trip is just beautiful.
Very well narrated by JR Moorland.

I was given a copy of this book for free, in return for an honest review.

60s adventure ride

Loved the easy ozy 60s flow to it, would have loved to have been around during that era.
