Story
In the spring of 1832, Zach Connors and his family have survived another winter in the Rocky Mountains. It was a winter without the supplies they usually enjoyed. In 1828, William Reed built a trading post on the Uintah River, just over the mountains from Zach’s home on Blacks Fork. Reed received supplies from Santa Fe each spring and fall, making his trading post the best source of supplies west of the great divide.

Mountain men are skilled at survival. Preacher, the greatest of all those warriors of the forest, will kill anything-beast or man-that threatens his survival. Ten years ago, he taught this violent lesson to gun-crazed Ezra Pease when he ran the outlaw out of town. But Pease and his trail-scum gang are back - shooting up trouble and crossing the Big Empty to nail Preacher's hide to a tree. So Preacher's riding out to teach Pease one final lesson. But it could be too late because Pease's vicious dealings have fired up an all-out Indian war.

No one remembered when he'd come to the mountains - it seemed that Preacher had always been there. He'd seen a great deal in the unmapped mountains and forests of the grand North American frontier. In fact, he'd just told a friend that he wasn't surprised by anything anymore. But Preacher hadn't seen Nova Roma yet. Suddenly, Preacher is faced with the strangest, most dangerous army the High Lonesome has ever seen. It's leader is a blood-mad fanatic right out of the ancient history books. All Preacher's got on his side are his brother mountain men.

Publisher's Summary
Warriors, avalanches, merciless fights, and now...a painted skull.
Rendezvous: Willow Valley, July 1831 - Zach Connors and his family are finally safe and among friends. He can let his wounded leg heal. All the trappers and mountain men anxiously await the supply train from St. Louis.
It had been a perilous spring and summer for Zach, his family, and friends. Known as "Grizzly Killer" throughout the wilderness, he and the others had fought a battle against Gros Ventre warriors and nearly lost a close friend in an avalanche.
Here at Rendezvous, he can feel safe among several hundred trappers and friendly Indians. Getting here had meant another fight, this time with the always dangerous Blackfeet. But what Zach didn’t know was that the worst danger of all awaited them at home - a painted skull.
Named as the best mountain man series by True West magazine, author Lane R. Warenski delivers the seventh book in the action-packed saga!

Great
This is book seven in the Grizzly Killer Series. This is my first reading of the series, and I unfortunately started with book seven. I wish I had started with book one.
The story takes place in 1831. Zack Connors, known as Grizzly Killer, and his family along with fellow trappers and mountain men gather in Willow Valley awaiting the supply train from Saint Louis. Warenski provides a lot of descriptions and information about the daily life of the mountain men in this historical western. There is some action, but mostly the story is about the daily life on the frontier. There is some retelling of action stories from Connor’s adventures from other books in the series. I found them interesting as this was my first reading of a book in the series; otherwise, if I had been following the series, I would have been unhappy with all the backstories. I am willing to try another book in the series. I understand they all are bestsellers on Amazon. I believe Warenski is an independent publisher.
The book is nine hours and five minutes. Louis B. Jack does a good job narrating the story. Jack is an actor and voice-over artist. This is my first experience with both the author and narrator.
