Definitely different

This was a pretty good story. When it comes to most books in this genre, they are normally written by men for men. Lots more detail on the how too and technological side of survival. You can definitely feel the input from a woman's prospective in this book. It really gets you to thinking about their side of survival. And how woman think and react.

I wanted to like the book. The story seemed alright. The narration left a lot to be desired. Not that I'm sexist, but the narrator sounded like a highschool freshman.

Interest at minimum

Story is good but would be better said by alternating voices with primary being male voice character. if you can visualize pass that the events said can be summarized, not bad if this is a first for person getting for thought of subject matter.

Grammer matters, and editing helps a lot

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Better to listen to this while I'm working than spend my full attention reading it.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator does not understand that there are no such words as; wifes leafs and knifes. We in the english language pronounce these words with a 'V' and spell them as such: wives, leaves, and knives. I'm sure these were spelled correctly in the text and she was 100% wrong each time the opportunity to correctly read the text of these words came up. By chapter 8 I was yelling at my phone correcting the spoken word. Plus there were other editing mistakes, a sentence read twice in a row at least twice , and some obvious spoken word errors including a spoonerism. Where was the editing in this? , who listened to this work? Some of these should have been caught and cut out. Otherwise her dialect and inflections were more on the whiney side , and considering that the main characters were not of the whiney nature it only helped in the first few chapters.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Not really it's was a middling piece of word an example of some religion, some survivalism and some libertarian values. Patriots did a better version of all those things. The author spent to much on he said she said writing and the characters were a bit wooden with no potential for real growth.

Elizabeth Phillips negatively colored what I considered a marginal piece of work overall. She didn't do such a bad job that would really change my opinion of the work if I read it but she didn't give it a hand with an exciting read or error free read either.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Elisabeth Phillips did not make the book any better. Every time she said woofs are failed to put an n in wouldn't or didn't it was distracting. My part of the woods we say wolves not woofs. If I took a shot of rum every time she said woofs it would have made her speech problems tolerable, only problem is I listen while I drive so all I could do was bark two times like a dog, drove the wife crazy.

Great Book- Not so great Narrator

Would you listen to Grid Down Reality Bites: Volume 1 Part 1 again? Why?

I loved the kindle versions of this series so was looking forward to the audible so I could listen while on long trips and at work. The narrator was a big disappointment. She miss-pronounces a lot of words and cant say "hay bales" correctly all thru the book. I hope they can make corrections and update to make it better.

What other book might you compare Grid Down Reality Bites: Volume 1 Part 1 to and why?

I love all the info this book has on prepping and surviving. I have read a lot of these type of books and found lots more useful info in this series. I have tried some of them and they really Do work.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

After reading the books, I was so impressed I wrote to the author to suggest release in Audible. Was expecting a male voice. Was let down over the voice they did make it with. Not a good choice in my opinion.

Very good series. Don't let the narrator turn you off. If you cant stand her get the kindle version.

Interesting story but poorly written and read

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The story is interesting but it's written as if by a young high school student. Part of it may be the reader but it sounds more like a "See Jane run" level of writing at times. Improper word usage is driving me crazy. Words such as knifes and lifes being used repeatedly and the use of the term "EMP bomb". Some of the same material is covered over and over, often times within a few minutes. There seems to be an incredible lack of imagination when it comes to names and such too.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The story overall is interesting and some of the descriptions are pretty accurate compared to what I believe will happen. The narrator makes it hard to listen to though.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She has a pleasant voice but reads like she's talking to a pre-school class. She doesn't tell the story or even read it as we would. I've nearly stopped listening to it several times.

Awful narrator

No, the story was mediocre and the narration was painful to listen to.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Nothing.

How could the performance have been better?

A different narrator for sure. It felt like sitting through first grade story hour with all the "he said...." and "then the leader asked...." with huge pauses. Awful.

Absolutely, it is a great book. From a stand point of prepping, it can help one learn new thigs with in depth details, as well as add ideas to what you may be overlooking.
