A heartwarming, uplifting village romance for fans of Holly Martin, Tilly Tennant and Cathy Bramley. Buying a thatched cottage in the country may not be the usual cure for a broken heart. But after Clara Maxwell finds out her boyfriend and best friend have been sneaking around behind her back, packing her bags and leaving everything in London behind feels like it's the only way forward. When Henry Garnett, her (rather handsome) new contractor, turns up with his little daughter Pansy and a van shaped like a cottage in tow, she isn't sure whether to laugh or cry.

I had to sit down...
I typically listen to audio books during my daily tasks. This book, in the last few chapters, I had to sit and listen intentionally. I was immersed in the story and had to give my full attention as Sophia, Zoe, and Megan wrapped up this tragic, emotional journey.

Great story - narration not so much!
I really loved the storyline and characters.
Unfortunately the narration spoiled it.
The volume difference from whisper to shouting made it difficult to listen.
One second I am straining to hear and the next second she is screaming in my ear.

Leaves an imprint in your soul. A true “Must Read.”
Greek Island Escape is not what the cover might lead you to believe and in the end it left my heart in a state of deep fatigue as great stories should. Outlining the journey of various people and their realistic paths though life struggles, this book is truly an unexpected treasure. From a runaway daughter to the deep rooted love and peril of two people that met in passing as children in a divided time of war after losing their families. Although a work of fiction, the characters have so much thoughtful detail you will think they were truly real. This may be due to the fact that the individual characters are based on the accounting of real people gathered throughout the author’s travels which have been expertly woven within actual historical happenings to create a gripping and heartfelt fictional writing that feels like anything but.
This will keep you up all night as you saturate yourself in it. It will leave your eyes red, your heart swollen, and finish you off with an imprint in your soul.
I have not experienced any other books by author Patricia Wilson, but she is now on my shortlist of favorite writers. I have never been happier to stumble across a book outside of what I normally gravitate toward. This is a book that people truly need to experience. Do not make the mistake of passing over it.

Wonderful and heart breaking story
We visited Greece in 2019, wish I would have been able to read/listen to this book before then and known of more of the more recent history. We walked many of the places mentioned in this book and was able to picture them in my mind as the story was told. We meet many wonderful people while in Greece, and heard many wonderful stories of their past, but never knew something like this had happened during their life time. Makes me want to go hug the lady who runs the local Greek restaurant in our area, she is from Greece and I'm sure she would have many stories from her life that would fit into this book. The story is wonderfully told and read, my next book will be one from Patricia Wilson.

This book grew on me so much as I got further in to it. The narrator is excellent with her clear, characterful voice and good pronunciation of Greek words. And it was fascinating to learn the details of post-war Greek history about which I only had a vague idea.

Book cover belies the tragedy within
Set in Greece after the Second World War.
Greece is corrupt.
The Imperialists versus the Communists. The allies, side with the corrupt Imperialists and bomb innocent people.
Sophia is a singer, like her mother. Marcus’ father becomes her manager
Marcus is a Communist seeking revenge for the death of his family.
The story is a mix of Greek history after the war and the struggle for survival of the citizens from famine due to corruption and interference from America and England.
This book is a tragedy. It is a love story of Sophia and Marcus, of their baby, given up to save its life, and the search of her mother, Sophia, to see her before she dies.

Fascinating Story
I loved listening to this audio book and it was hard to stop at night and get some sleep.
The characters are great. The story pulled me in and is very good written.
Although based on a sad violent time in Greece, there is also a lot of love, compassion
and emotions. I'll have a look at other books of the author.
