Publisher's Summary

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, The Signalman by Charles Dickens, Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Dracula by Bram Stoker, and a bonus story, "The Monkey’s Paw" by W.W. Jacobs.

More than 30 hours of great classic horror is brought to haunting new life by three A-list narrators whose performances are nothing short of electrifying.

“At once terrifying and heartbreaking,” raves AudioFile Magazine about Clive Hayward’s Earphones award-winning reading of Frankenstein that starts the collection.

“Both narrators are outstanding,” says AudioFile about Audie Award-winner Derek Perkins and Earphones Award-winner Alison Larkin’s narration of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and "The Yellow Wallpaper".

Frankenstein was born when Mary Shelley entered a competition with poets Lord Byron and Percy Shelley to see who could write the best horror story. Read by Clive Hayward.

The Signalman, a ghost story by Charles Dickens, was influenced by a fatal train accident he survived, though he was forever haunted by the event. Read by Derek Perkins.

Carmilla is Le Fanu’s tortured, powerful female vampire who set the stage for so many vampires to come, including Dracula. Read by Alison Larkin.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde grew out of a horrifying nightmare Robert Louis Stevenson had one night in Bournemouth, England, in 1886. Read by Derek Perkins.

"The Yellow Wallpaper" sprang from a catastrophic nervous breakdown Charlotte Perkins Gilman had following the birth of her daughter. Read by Alison Larkin.

Dracula, by Bram Stoker, is the quintessential vampire horror story that set out many of the conventions modern fantasy writers still embrace. Read by Clive Hayward.

"The Monkey’s Paw", by W W Jacobs, is a supernatural short story. Read by Clive Hayward.

Classics.

I'm not going to comment on the stories themselves because... Well there're called classics for a reason!!! Each narrator did a great job with these stories. They were clear and easy to follow, they read them well and injected life into them. Great collection of stories and well worth a credit.

A Great Collection of Classics for a Great Deal

This is a great bundle of classics. Some of them were really familiar to me: Dracula, Frankenstein, The Yellow Wallpaper. Some of them were less familiar: Carmilla, The Signalman, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde. The narrators were all great and nailed it. Personally, I enjoyed Carmilla best. I'd never read it before and found it enjoyable. It was much faster paced than a lot of books from the same period. Really, there wasn't a single bad point in this collection. It's the perfect collection to keep you entertained through plenty of stormy nights and a great deal with four books and three short stories included.

I love Alison Larkin as a narrator and Clive Hayward and Derek Perkins were great as well. All three gave delightful, talented performances and made these classics all come to life.

I was given this book for free at my own request in exchange for a fair review.

Excellent narrators

This is the first I’ve listened to this compilation. I’ve read some of these stories before and I enjoy these classics, so I thought I’d give the audio version a try.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by these narrators( Clive Hayward, Derek Perkins, Alison Larkin ) and I would listen to them all again. They did great narrating these books. Each brought out the flair of an old time story and brought the stories to life. A great way to enjoy these classic horror stories. Each narration had a variety of character voices and the male and female voices were well done.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

Wonderful Collection

All the great horror pieces from classic literature all combined into one awesome audiobook.

This is a must have for all fans of the genre. Even though this is a long listen, I loved it because it has a lot of stories in it. This collection has everything from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to The Monkey’s Paw and the Yellow Wallpaper. There are even a few stories in this collection that I have never heard of but enjoyed anyway.

The changing narration helped to keep the suspense alive with each alternating story, bringing the characters to life and animating the words in a way that sends chills down your spine.

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this collection. Highly recommended!

Great Collection with Superb Narration.

This is a great collection of Classic Horror Stories. I have previously read 3 or 4 of them but some were quite new to me. If you like classics or horror, definitely give this a look you get a ton of great stories in one book so it is a great deal and bang for your buck. The production and narration by all three narrators is superb and really bring the stories to life, so even if you have previously read or listened to some of these books it is definitely worth a relisten. I have never heard the narrators Alison Larkin or Clive Hayward before but I will probably look for some of their other performances because they were great. Derek Perkins is already one of my favorite narrators and have listened to many books he has performed before and never been let down.

Overall I would definitely recommend this collection, it is worth a listen alone just for the great narration but you also get classic well written stories as well.

Great Classics

I'll mainly comment on the narrations because the stories don't need any critiques. They are called classics for a reason. The narrations by Clive Hayward, Derek Perkins, and Alison Larkin are done very well. Each narrator gives their characters diverse voices and their own emotions. Each one helps to bring the stories to life for the listener. They really engross the listener into the worlds they are narrating. Wonderful experience for all horror lovers. I will be recommending this collection to my friends.

Quality Collection

I got this book for free and leave this review of my own accord.

This collection is made up of some stories I knew the basics of and some I had never heard of, but none I had ever read so this was right up my alley. The stories will speak for themselves (these are all considered 'classics' after all).
If you like classics, this collection is for you.
If you like horror, this collection is for you.
If you've never read, this collection is for you.
