Great addition to the series :D

4.5-5 stars

This was a great story. I just loved George and Ellie and their story was really good and kept me engaged until the end.

Ellie works in the clothing boutique and lives in a nice condo in Chicago. Ellie grew up with a mentally ill father and after an unsupervised visit she had with him as a child that ended up in a standoff with the police, Ellie didn't have much contact with him. Ellie dated some but hadn't had any luck finding the right guy.

George is a mountain man that works for the local Search & Rescue team as well as doing some construction in the summer when things are slow. George lost his mother when he was a baby and his father when he was a teen and he doesn't have anyone else. He's a loner that's extremely laconic and tends to stick with the bare essentials so much so that he doesn't even have a phone.

Ellie got a call from her father, Baxter, saying that people were after him and that he's going to a cabin in the mountains. Ellie is worried...she's sure his paranoia about someone being after him is just his mental illness but she's worried he could die hiking to the cabin in the snow. She decides to take a couple days off work and go to Colorado to find her father and make sure he's safe. When she gets to town, one of the first people she runs into is Lou and when Lou finds out that Ellie's father is Baxter Price, she's very interested in helping (since book #1 Lou and Callum have been unofficially investigating a local death and it has ties to Baxter Price). Ellie is able to get the coordinates of the cabin her father was going to and (with a bit of trouble because of his anti-social ways) manages to get George to agree to help her track her father in the wilderness.

It's winter in Colorado and the mountains still have plenty of snow so Ellie gets the appropriate clothing for the hike. Thankfully, George has all the other equipment the need and they're able to leave the next morning. Ellie isn't prepared for the stress of the hike but she does alright and follows instructions. As mentioned, George is very laconic and says more with looks than most people say with a sentence. Despite this, Ellie does eventually get him to talk and even smile and laugh as they spend more time together. They both are attracted to each other but their situation makes romantic feelings a bit difficult, especially when they realize that Baxter's fears weren't all in his head and killers are on their trail. They get through that situation but it takes some more time before everything is settled (mostly). Once things are better, Ellie and George solidify their relationship and the story ends with them starting a HEA.

I enjoyed this story greatly. I loved Ellie...I thought it was great that she was portrayed as a normal woman with her head on straight that managed to survive a bad situation and win her man in the end. She wasn't a bad-ass or a wimp but somewhere in between with reactions and such like any of us would probably feel in a situation like that. George was great and I just wish we'd have gotten a little more from his PoV. The story was very good and interesting/engaging enough that I had trouble stopping to go to sleep last night and outside sleep I didn't didn't stop reading until I was done. I'd recommend this book. :D

Great story

I've enjoyed each book in this series. This one being the most convoluted. It just kept going and going. It brings back the characters from the previous books and weaves them into the story. I can't wait to listen to the next one.

A great read!

Now this was a seriously good read! It starts off with a bang, and ends with a bang.

George is the big, strong, silent type but when Ellie comes into the picture things change slightly. At first they’re just out to find her crazy dad who is in the woods somewhere. As with all good things, this trip turns into them running from moose, and murderers.. they’re running for their lives and for Ellie’s dad.

Baxter Price knows too much. He knows Hong’s that have his life in danger and in the process of trying to stay alive, he’s thrown an anchor instead of a life preserver. He’s not only got to keep himself alive and going but he’s got to make sure his daughter is safe.

George and Ellie have a crazy road ahead of them and in the end... things go from bad to worse to “I didn’t see that coming!”

Great suspenseful book. I could not quit listening to this story. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books, too. I can't wait for the next one either.

Loved it!

Fast paced story with brilliant characters and some very funny dialogue complemented by a great reader. I'm hoping the whole series gets the same treatment
