A hilarious Dickens story, with his masterly story-within-a-story format, about a sideshow and the various characters who inhabit it - especially a dwarf who seeks to gain property and go into society. He gets the money by winning a lottery and does enter into society, with hilarious and sad results. A rollicking good time, "Going into Society" is reminiscent of O'Henry and Mark Twain, too. One of Dickens' best humorous stories. Read by an American voice, per listener request.

What disappointed you about Going into Society?

uggg... had to turn this off after less than a minute. Recording is not professional at all. So hard on the ears.

Has Going into Society turned you off from other books in this genre?

no.

What didn’t you like about Deaver Brown’s performance?

awful.

Any additional comments?

not worth the $1.95. would rather just read the short story myself.

He may be fine for Mark Twain or some other American writer but really should leave the works of Mr Dickens alone.

I did not enjoy this narrator.
