After walking into a trap on a covert op in Russia, the men from top secret SEAL Team Nine are presumed dead. Not knowing whom they can trust, and with war hanging in the balance, the survivors must go dark and scatter around the globe.

Marine ecologist Annie Henderson joins her new boyfriend on a trip to the Western Isles of Scotland to protest a hazardous offshore drilling venture. When she realizes that she may be swept up in something far more dangerous than she'd intended, there is only one man she can turn to....

She and the mysterious but sexy dive boat captain haven't exactly gotten off to the best start, but something about his quiet confidence makes her think that he's the kind of man she can depend on. Because he's gruff and guarded, she can tell Dan Warren has secrets. But she could never imagine how high the stakes are for him to keep his cover, even as he risks everything to protect her....

Contains mature themes.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"McCarty's exciting contemporary series launch will not disappoint fans of her historical Highlands romances, as she finds plenty of ways to bring in Scottish elements and even the occasional kilt." ( Publishers Weekly)

A little slow in parts. The FMC lost some points with me when she doesn’t think things through fully which put’s other lives at risk especially the MMC and she just expects him to keep saving her, yet she doesn’t approve of his occupation and what he stands for.
This story is told from several POV’s and not just the 2 MC’s and only has one narrator and not a lot of different voices so you have to pay really close attention to who’s POV it is at the time or it gets confusing.
You don’t get a conclusion in this book, you have to keep reading series.

Strong and steady hero

Going Dark sets the scene for another amazing series from the McCarty. The book opens by giving us a glimpse into the life's of the platoon members and then sets the stage for the rest series with anchor characters of Dean & Annie and Colt and Kate. As with all McCarty's books she provides an amazing love story full of sexual tension mixed with the right amount of drama and high stakes action to keep the reader highly engaged. I've only one complaint with the work - that I have to wait for the second installment! Great job and I can't wait to learn more about the lost platoon.

I can’t stand this chick I had to turn the speed up because I still wanted to get the gist of the first book since the others in this series seems more promising but dang this girl just sucks. The only thing that saves me from not hating her completely is that in her own way she somewhat stands up for the military? You think she would more considering her dad was special ops as well as the hero in this book is but it’s something at the very least. (I get that she’s upset that the military didn’t take care of her dad when he had health and mental issues but you can’t blame the whole entire military because something happens you didn’t like or agree with.) Her ethics and morals and views are so twisted it’s not even funny and it’s surprising the hero of this book actually falls for her.

Narrator was okay but in the beginning of the book she used accents for the characters that I couldn’t understand 😂 the French people she made obvious but the rest were so confusing I had to rewind a few times to make sure I didn’t miss something lmao.

The heroine sucks

Fmc kinda was dumb. I liked the chemistry between the mmc and fmc. I wished the story was paced faster.

This was nice

The narrator is really challenging to listen to. A suggestion is not to hire elderly narrators to communicate younger characters in books. It never works. I felt like I'm listening to a scene out of the movie 'Cocoon'... Her accents are overdone and annoying to listen to. Once I can get past the Dorothy thing from the 'Golden Girls', the story seems to be shaping up to be okay. Still got 7hrs to go... Not sure if I can handle the narration.

Narrators make or break it
