Useful book for starting your work-travel journey

There are quite a few incentives to try working from abroad and this book manages to help you get started. It's based on the journey of this author so you can understand better what helped him most in order to work from a distance while traveling the world. The narration is pleasant and it helps to create a good story. There are many tips for starting your own personal journey and keeping in mind that I'm also an expat I believe that the book has enough ideas to get you started and actually be successful at it. Good luck with your new adventure.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Lessons from real life experience!

While this book is geared more towards college students and those who are very early in their careers, it's still chock full of hard won insights and great tips for those considering living and working internationally. It has inspired me to give some serious thought to how I might be able to make this work in my own life. The bases are really well covered with everything from trip planning and Visas to specific information about some of the most popular country destinations and a ton of great travel tips as well. I'd definitely recommend a listen even if you're just thinking about what life might be like for an extended adventure outside of the US.

A Complete Guide To Working Remotely

I never thought remote work abroad was possible until I read this book. It provides so many incremental and overlooked steps to take to become a successful remote worker part time or full time. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Smart tips if you are US citizen

This book is a great start for you if you consider relocation and if you are US citizen. For others it might be just partly useful, as majority of tips here are applicable for US citizens only ( like visa options for US citizens).

Basically, main idea of the book - you can relocate wherever you want and either be hired by employer in the country(expat) or work for employer outside of the country you live in and get salary in other country's currency (digital nomad). Some of the advices I, as expat for already 8 years, find extremely useful, others quite obvious and arguable. What I really liked from this book is that author provided very useful links to job boards in countries he's been working in - Singapore, South Korea, Australia, Columbia and Ireland.

Narrator's work is great - I really liked his work, pauses and intonation.

An important caveat to the title of this book

The book is based on the author’s own first hand experiences. It makes for an interesting account, but offers little inspiration or valuable tips if your situation is not similar to his.

This is written for American college students/recent grads, who likely have never travelled outside the U.S. before. The author shares a checklist of things to pack including toothpaste and deodorant. He also gives such insights as stating that ”North American culture” is different from ”European culture” which is also different from ”Asian culture”. If you find these kind of tips helpful or don’t see any problem with such broad generalizations then this book will probably inspire you to do that study-abroad program.

If not, than you will be as disappointed as I was.

If you liked the 4-hour workweek you'll love this book

I loved the 4-hour workweek but I thought it was lacking a lot of practical strategies that I could implement today. Global career provides the practical strategies that were missing from the 4-hour workweek.

It doesn't focus on starting an online business or ideas but instead the actual steps you can take to prepare to live and travel overseas or get a remote job.

While the 4-hour workweek tells you to go live in Argentina and learn salsa dancing, global career provides the websites and resources to make that a reality. Not just to travel but to build a career overseas or get a job that you do from anywhere in the world.

I'm paraphrasing the book here but I think this sums the book up well:
What this book will do for you is turn your dream of traveling one day into something you know you can do right now.

Instead of looking at vacation destinations for that trip you want to take someday but taking no action on it. This book will get you looking up flight times and submitting your visa application to make your dream of traveling one day into a reality now.

I really enjoyed this audiobook and since listening to it I have already taken steps towards making a move overseas.
