A Clockwork Orange and RuPaul's Drag Race meet Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in this fabulous dystopian fable about fashion, family and feckless billionaires.

Simone is one of the Glitterati, the elite living lives of luxury and leisure. Slave to the ever-changing tides—and brutal judgements—of fashion, he is immaculate. To be anything else is to be unfashionable, and no one wants to be unfashionable, or even worse, ugly…

When Simone accidentally starts a new fashion with a nosebleed at a party, another Glitterati takes the credit. Soon their rivalry threatens to raze their opulent utopia to the ground, as no one knows how to be vicious like the beautiful ones.

Enter a world of the most fantastic costumes, grand palaces in the sky, the grandest parties known to mankind and the unbreakable rules of how to eat ice cream. A fabulous dystopian fable about fashion, family and the feckless billionaire class.

I am so bummed out that this doesn't have more reviews!! This is in my top 10 reads of all time. This book is totally absurd, hysterical, insane, heart-warming and just so many things. I honestly cannot believe someone was able to come up with such a unique story. This is probably my favorite audiobook out of every single one i've purchased on audible. There are some books that I've bought where there is zero re-readable quality, but that's not the case here. This book just gets funnier and funnier every single time I listen to it.

Thank you, Oliver for writing this masterpiece. Reading this immediately boosts my serotonin by approximately 47%.

Hidden Gem! I've never laughed so much at a book.

50% fashion, 40% dystopia, 10% scifi. 100% hilarious and heartfelt throughout. My favorite book of the past year

Absurdly funny

The story is absurd. I thought at first that it would be TOO ridiculous to get into. It certain seems like a world gone mad.

The third act pulls it all together, though. The story is still crazy, but it isn't SILLY. It has some weight.

Definitely an interesting ride.

Funny, absurd, and satisfying

Infinitely wealthy people erase their memories so that they can appear even more beautiful and be proper fashionistas. The idea is that trauma can make you frown and that is bad for being fashionable, so they erase every traumatic experience. For them this could be bad sex, an unfortunate event like a bad meal or any other reason that seems to be less than perfect. This also includes their childhood: their memories start at 18 going forward. At a certain point there is an excellent plot twist thus making the book far more interesting and there are even some lessons to be learned along the way. All the characters were unique, the narrator did an excellent job bringing them to life and it ends with a satisfying conclusion. This was a good read!

Negative experiences do not exist for the fashionable: in a world surrounded by undesirables they are the glitterati.
