Emilie Loring
Beautiful, impetuous, Melissa Barclay had grown up in an atmosphere of security and ease.
But now, suddenly, that life was gone, and she finds herself totally alone. Whom could she turn to? Whom could she trust? Johnny Grant, the wealthy playboy she’s known since childhood? Or Lex Carson, the mysterious, handsome stranger who asked for her love, yet remains so strangely distant?
At first Lissa thought that she had the whole summer to decide. But then, amid feverishly mounting intrigue and danger, she will have to make the right choice soon - or else lose her chances of happiness forever.
Emilie Loring was a very prolific and popular American romance writer. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she published her first book when she was 50 and continued writing until her death in 1951. She sold more than a million copies of her first 30 books.

The Emilie Loring Romances have been really popular about 80 years ago or so, and I have just finished listening to one of them.
Give Me One Summer by renowned author Emilie Loring has been a best-seller over the years and now with it being available as an audiobook, even more listeners can discover this captivating story about a young and very beautiful girl who has to decide what she will do with her life after her aunt has died and she is left with no other living relative. Her quiet and secure life has ended and she has to make a decision very soon.
Written in a flowing style with talent, this is clearly a classic romance novel that will appeal to many fans of this genre. Filled with characters that feel real, Give Me One Summer is a glimpse into how life was in the early 20th century.
The audiobook version of Give Me One Summer is narrated by Gabriela Degwitz. She reads in her quiet, pleasant tone. She does not change voices from one character to another like some other artists do in order to create a level of immersion for the listener. I’d suggest that you check out the sample to see if you connect with Gabriela’s style. As such, I would not call this a performance, but just a reading. The recording is mostly good, but from time to time you can hear the places where edits have been done and that could be a problem for some audiobooks lovers.
So, if you are in the mood for a classic romance novel, I think that this story will be enjoyable. It is written in an old style, so no intense sex scenes or inappropriate language.

I read many stacks of Ms Loring’s books when I was in high school. I liked the WWII settings and the quaint dialogue, reminiscent of the old movies set in the 30s and 40s. I do like the morality woven through every story, though.
I will read some kindle Loring books.
Not my favorite Emilie Loring.

I’m 67. When I was 11 my parents gave me a 6 book box set of Emilie Loring books. I read all 6 of them during my christmas vacation. I loved them so much. I loved all the different decades and how different it was. When I got a little older I bought every Emilie Loring book I could find. I had to get most of them from used book stores. I found everyone except this one. I was so happy to find it on Audible. I loved every minute of it. I hope there are more to come. I guess we will have to see if enough people are interested in reading these very clean but entertaining book.
These books give us a good picture of America over the span of six decades beginning with the late 1920’s.
Love it.
