Publisher's summary

Urban Books' popular Girls from da Hood series is back, bringing listeners more dramatic tales about the lives of some tough, resourceful women who can hold their own when things get rough on the streets. This time, Redd, Nikki-Michelle, and Erick S. Gray deliver the stories with their trademark flair.

Like a hood-rich Bonnie and Clyde, Candy and Raynail have their hands on all of the drugs that run through the veins of Westwood. When Raynail is set up to take the fall for a crime he didn't commit, Candy goes on a mission to take down everyone involved.

Baby and G. G. should be thinking about high school, but their minds are definitely not on studying. These two are tight like sisters, and they have each other's backs no matter what - until Baby comes up with a plan that involves blackmailing someone to kill G. G.'s man. When these two cousins clash, the shock wave will be felt throughout the hood.

Vix Dixon is an upscale ghetto-girl that no man in his right mind wants to cross. She's a predator who preys on the weak. Her mission? To have any man or woman she wants by any means necessary. Now, she's set her sights on her teacher, Alex Rodriguez, and he bites the apple instead of a bullet. By the time Alex realizes just what he's gotten himself into, hell on earth will have a different meaning for him.

Not what I thought...

The 1st and last story was really good and narrated well. The 2nd story I could have lived without. There was too much sex and not enough action. The narrator left a lot to be desired.. There was NO FLOW to her reading, throughout the entire story it was choppy. All of it was just dreadful.

The 2nd story almost killed me

The reading in both books 1 and 2 was HORRIBLE. I’ll be the bad guy addressing the elephant .. the first book I fast forwarded a lot. The 2nd reader made me cringe. The story was also every where! Sigh

Where’re the female voices?

Can’t tell you about the first or third story because I can’t stand the male reader’s choppiness. The second story is about a confident NY/Atlanta girl in lust with her teacher, Mr. Rodriguez. She knows her body is worth a lot and grew up rough, raped at gunpoint by 12. The wording always sounds off though, porny slang versus grave wording a lot of new writers can’t tell the tonal difference of (guilty of). Even consensual scenes are gross. Not only is it weird she makes the rapist leave his wife for her but she tells her mom about her sexual fantasies and intentionally steals her men. Does she want the sibling her mother refuses to have? We keep hearing the MC has a female lover who pays for her services but it’s always sporadic, mysterious. Likewise the descriptions of stepping over dead bums being like hood Xmas decorations. The living out of her car bits are interesting but it doesn’t sound like she’s hurting for money too much, eating red velvet cupcakes and getting hotels. This is one of those stories that has so much action it actually becomes annoying because it’s so unrealistic like a list of plot bombs connected in as few words as possible. Impatient, not as emotional writing because of it.

it's ok to skip this one

struggled with this book, actually skipped most of the stories. I don't think it was written by authors I can identify with. Some of the wording was just off but I actually loved all series leading up to this one

GREAT SHORT STORIES!

I really enjoyed all 3 stories, however, the second story read by Nia Wilkerson made me want to stop listening altogether. Narration is NOT HER STRENGTH. It completely took away from the story. I think she would do well reading to elementary school aged children. She should leave narration to those best suited.

2nd story

The story line on the 2nd story was turned into a movie called No Better Love on Tubi. I haven’t watched it yet but I hope it’s better than the book! I thought it was rushed and under developed. Some stories take too long to get to the point but this one skipped over it altogether and went right to the end.
