Their latest assignment takes the Ghost Finders of the Carnaki Institute to a small country village, site of a famously haunted inn. At first, JC thinks that the spirits in the King’s Arm Inn are more the stuff of folk tales and legend than anything that needs the Ghost Finder’s expertise. Then they are shown to their rooms and the inn shows its true face to JC, Melody, and Happy, and it isn’t pretty.

"Only in that dark heart of London where it's always three a.m., where human and inhuman can feed their darkest desires, do I feel at home. Probably because I was born here. What I do is find things - people, objects - and in this case, the truth about the origins of the Nightside. That's what Lady Luck has hired me to investigate. But the more I dig, the more I discover, not about the Nightside but about the great question in my life: exactly who - and what - was my long-vanished mother."

Classic Simon
Where does Ghost of a Dream rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have listened to all of SRG's works and I think this is his best. It's his classic formula of an opening minidrama followed by a great mystery.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters are more flushed out and human, while the classic horror is amped up several notches. You can see it unplay like a movie in your mind. He also ties it into many of his other series with character references.
What does Toby Leonard Moore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He shifts wonderfully and fluidly between all of the accents of the UK. He is a pleasure to listen to.
If you could take any character from Ghost of a Dream out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Alester. He plays no less that 4 characters in the book and would be a dinner party in and of himself.
Any additional comments?
Brain candy taken to a new fantasy level.

very disappointing to a Simon R Green fan
What disappointed you about Ghost of a Dream?
It was the only time I have ever applied the word "boring" to one of Green's books. The dialog was repetetive, the story seemed rather dull compared to some of his other works, and I just couldn't get into it. The narrator was good, I enjoy the accents of the characters... but in this book that was about the only thing I enjoyed. I quickly tired of the heavy footsteps with nobody there and the people who turned out to be ghosts much to the surprise of the ghostfinder team (I wasn't a bit surprised).
What could Simon R. Green have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I don't know what would have improved the book for me... It just wasn't to my taste. I think I'll stick to other series by this author, as this is the second book of this series that has let me down in my expectations of his works. I tried this one as a "second chance" for the series... back to Eddie Drood and the infamous wild witch of the forest for me!
