A sexy opposites attract, single parent romance!

New Orleans firefighter, James Reynaud’s true love is hanging out in the jazz clubs on Frenchmen Street and playing piano with some of the best musicians in the city. But driving his cute, bookworm neighbor Harper Broussard crazy is right up there on his list of favorite things.

The buttoned-up linguistics professor across the hall is a little older, a lot smarter, and way too good for him. And she knows it. But wow is she beautiful when she blushes.

She’s equally gorgeous when she’s saving his butt. Because now things just got serious. A baby has been, literally, dropped off on his doorstep and to say he’s in over his head is an understatement. Not that Harper knows anything about babies either. But at least they now have something in common.

An olive tree, lizard, dog and baby...great story!

Getting Off Easy is part of Erin Nicholas’ Boys of the Big Easy series.

James Reynaud is a firefighter, a lady’s man, a jazz musician and a fixer. If someone has a problem, they know they can turn to James for help.

Harper Broussard is new to New Orleans. She grew up in France, her family emigrated to Canada and she moved to New Orleans on her own. She is a linguistics professor who loves to spend her down time reading romance novels. She is very intrigued by the man, James, who lives across the hall from her. Though she finds him attractive she feels she is too old to have a relationship with him.

Imagine Harper’s surprise when she hears a knock on her door and find James with an olive tree on the other side. James inherited this tree from a friend who passed away. Since he works long hours, he asks Harper to help him keep this tree alive. Then comes a lizard, a drunk woman and finally, a dog. Harper finally admits she has feelings for James. She is prepared to act on these feelings…until James is called into work for a warehouse fire. The next time James knocks on her door she is prepared for the night they missed out on. Unfortunately, when she opens the door, she finds James holding a baby! Where did this baby come from? Who left him? Is James the father?

This story is not just about finding who this baby belongs to, but the journey James and Harper take to find themselves. Of course, it’s an HEA with a fantastic ending!

The narrator was Ryan West. He did a fantastic job! He had just a hint of a Louisiana accent. He kept me engaged in the story, made me feel like I was in the south and was able to do a great job differentiating the character voices.

Unique Story!

Single dad? Sort of, single mom? Sort of lol

Twist is the middle that threw everything into a big mess? Yep! Did I call correctly who the parent was at the beginning of the book? YEP!

Did I see how they would make that all work in the long run? Nope! Am I disappointed in the way she took it? Nope lol I really really like how this story was wrapped up!

Not your typical single parent ends with proposal/marriage/etc. Erin really took the single parent M.O. threw it out the window and forged a new path lol

This one was also narrated by Ryan West and he is simply fabulous. He did a male Louisiana French/Cajun twist (IE New Orleans) and a France/French Canadian female and switched between them with apparent ease.

This book was absolutely delightful

WOW!

Loved everything about this narration. The story James, Harper and the ‘family’ they created was heartbreaking and heartwarming, in one emotional read/listen. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ worthy stars.

Great End to the Boys of the Big Easy series

We met James Reynaud, New Orleans firefighter in Nice and Easy. He is a someone that people count on to help out. If you have a pet or plant that you can't take care of anymore you give it to James. He will take care of it.
His next door neighbor, the sassy professor Harper Broussard, helps James take care of his charges. One day there is something different left on James' doorstep, a baby boy. Harper is convinced that it is James's baby. They set about trying to find the mother. As they co-parent the baby their relationship gets closer.

There is a little twist and a great HEA. Great way to wrap up the Boys of the Big Easy series.

Great narration by Ryan West.

Getting Off Easy

This is the last book in the Boys of the Big Easy, but you do not need to read the others before you read this one. James is the fire fighter who helps everyone and everything. If someone needs something taken care of they take it to James. I like the fact that James went to Harper for help with whatever was at his door….. yes things just show up at the door to his house. When a baby shows up at his door it changes everything. Harper seems a little standoffish at first but by the end of the book I did like her. Overall it was a cute story and a great end to the series.

A great Big Easy listen

I really like the Boys of the Big Easy series and the way Erin Nicholas writes. The audio version is so good with Ryan West's sexy southern drawl. James is a firefighter who takes care of everyone and everything even though he seems so ready going. Harper lives across the hall from him. in order to get to know her, he has her help with his "projects " that need his help. The biggest is now the baby that's been left on his doorstep. As they try to find the mother, they find out more about each other and fall in love. I like how the previous couples in the series are a support group for each other. If this is the final book in the series, it was a fantastic finale.

Fun and steamy story

James, a firefighter and musician, enlists his neighbor Harper, a professor, to help him take care of things.... a tree, lizard and a dog.. as a means to see her and flirt with her. So when a baby is left outside his door, he is again knocking on her door. I really liked these characters- James is a caretaker and will do what is necessary, while Harper sees herself as a planner. Loved watching their story eve love as they care for the baby and fall for each other. Also loved some of the twists and turns there were in the story. Definitely worth the read.

My Thoughts on Getting Off Easy

I didn’t think I could love James as much as the previous Boys of the Big Easy, but I did. From his huge heart and flirty attitude and his general selflessness. He was such a well written character. And he found his perfect match in Harper. This was an age gap romance, but I love that the gap wasn’t beaten to heck as a point of contention. I enjoyed the fact that there were several moments over several months where the two main characters had come into contact and not only shown what good people each was as individuals, but really got to know each other. So then it was no surprise when they were in love. I was very surprised by certain twists in the storyline but in the end felt it was so very well done.

One of the best parts of course was the narration. I love Ryan West. He’s got a great deep tone, but he can also do good accents and he always manages to hold my attention in a book. This one was no exception, just another great example of his work.
