Publisher's summary

If you want to discover the captivating history of Geronimo, then pay attention.

His name was Geronimo. And any mention of that name immediately conjures up images of the last gasp of Native American control of the Western Frontier. Geronimo, to be sure, was one of the most effective leaders in the resistance against America’s westward advance, but he was much more than just a good field commander for the Apaches.

For even after the West was supposedly won, Geronimo proved more than ready to adapt. And when the Apache Wars came to a close, he was able to rebrand himself as an icon of western Americana. In many instances, he actually got paid by the very ones who thought they had vanquished him, as Geronimo became a kind of celebrity, participating in Wild West shows in which he basically acted out what was his life - or at least what was perceived to be his life. But in reality, the real Geronimo was much more than an accomplished horseman riding the range. He was more than a marauder raiding hapless settlers. And he was more than a skilled marksman, medicine man, and shaman.

In this book, you will get the full picture of Geronimo: the good, the bad, and the downright incredible.

Well written, some new insights.

This is a well researched and very good audiobook about the famous Apache leader, Geronimo. It covers all his life and explains how he viewed the things happening around him, and especially how it affected him and his followers, personally in what were very tough times. I can highly recommend this to those who have an interest in the days and events of the Old West.

"Geronimo: in his own words"

A better title might be "Geronimo: In his own words. I am giving stars because of the quality of the transcription, not the content of the story. While the observations and disclaimers of the narrator irritated me at times, they served as some reminder of the culture of the times.

Captivating History, thanks for the effort.

This audiobook does not seek to make a cult-hero of Geronimo. It shows the facts, as well as the author, can pick through all of his research and compiles them into an accurate biography with no frills and fancy embellishments.

Geronimo: A Mistreated American

If you are into American history or Native Americans, this autobiography is right up your alley. Geronimo was quite a warrior and quite injured by our government and the Mexican forces. He insisted that it be in his words after much arguing with our Washington geniuses, he was finally allowed to do so.
