Publisher's summary

After two centuries of nuclear blight, a new America is emerging, forged by those seeking peace and hope for the future. Pocket communities, ruled by local barons, have become the new centers of civilization...and power. But while many desire prosperity, others embrace ideas of ultimate domination.

The son of a powerful baron, Ryan Cawdor has chosen his own path through the Deathlands. Now rumors of trouble bring him home to West Virginia, where he'd left his nephew Nathan at the head of the barony. But a welcoming committee is waiting for him with a band of sec men and a usurper of the Cawdor name. Unable to help a mysteriously ailing Krysty Wroth, Ryan challenges two of his oldest enemies in their grim gambit to control the East Coast Baronies.

(The Baronies Trilogy - 1 of 3)

Performed by Richard Rohan, Terence Aselford, Nanette Savard, Colleen Delany, Thomas Penny.

the story is great, but Sound Engineering way off

The story was great, and it has a lot of meat to it as far as adding to the overall storyline past and future of deathlands. Even hints of the Outland scenario. BUT, the sound engineering, affects, and voice overs, seem very rushed and unpolished compared to the prior books.
I know the actress that played Mildred had health issues, and they had used somebody else a few books ago, but this time it was quite apparent it was the same person that does Kristi's voice, and it made it extremely hard to tell them apart at times. At one point there was a female security officer that you could tell was also the same person that did Dean's voice.
Towards the beginning the mix was also off because I know the same person does JB Dix and Doc, but you could really tell more than usual.
Anyway, the story itself is worth suffering through, I just felt they didn't do it the proper justice. many sound effects weren't even there like usual, leaving uncomfortable silence in the background when they were describing things that should have immense sound effects.
Just one man's opinion.
