Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Irritating child storyline!
Really? An annoying little girl with "godlike powers", and a goody-goody demeanor, along with adult characters just gushing over her so much that it all gives me loose bowels. I am no fan of children in books, movies, or TV shows, so I admit some bias there (they're stereotypical at best...impossibly cute or sullen or smarter than adults...you get the drift). The first two books were full of action, character, thought-provoking sci-fi tech, and world-building, and R.C. Bray narrating with his usual awesomeness!..then this complete 180. What a disappointing letdown! WHY?! Sorry, but I will not be moving forward with this series. I am going to do my best to return this, as well. I think it is too late to attempt to return the first two, but I am going to try. The authors need to read Expeditionary Force and the like to get a feel for what fans of military sci-fi, space opera like cause this drivel ain't' it.

Way to much of the annoying kid
I don’t think the book is bad only very focused on the weakest character in the book. The first two books are much better in character and story line. This one was a bit of a let down.
It’s not bad only ok.

Too Much Little Girl
Loved this series and was really looking forward to the 3rd audio book but sad to say the little girl character ruined it for me. She was annoying, especially since I had just finished another series with a character similar to her. I struggled to finish this book because of it. I actually had to stop reading for quite awhile before getting back to it. R.C. Bray was awesome as always.

PMS
I honestly feel like this book was written by some menstrual woman. Way too many feelings and hugging. I did not like the style at which it was written either. Basically each character repeats the last couple words that another character has said but in a question form. Lots of annoying conversation and feelings. Gross.

This time it is personal and there are no rules.
The only thing worse than a pissed off Marine is a betrayed Marine with no rules with a bunch of Marauders for back up. Magnus and Awen barely survived the peace process but now they need to plan for war. Survivor's reconnect and plan the next steps in what looks like a no win situation. unlikely allies will need to work together to become outlaws, a resistance, and maybe heroes. the action speeds up and the list of great characters gets even deeper as the beginning of a plan takes shape. When evil rises and the good guys fail to act it takes an act of rebellion to force others to act. I love this series and cannot wait to hear RC Bray continue to bring the characters to life.

Far more than I expected
This is the third book in the Ruins of the Galaxy series and it continues what we've come to expect. The characterizations are very well done. The plot is exciting. The action is fast paced and impactful. And as a former marine, I can tell you that I loved the attention to detail.
This isn't just another random, paint by numbers scifi series. It's moving and engaging. I've been reading and listening to J.N. Chaney's books for two years now, but I've been a fan of scifi since I was 12 years old and have read hundreds of books. He is, as far as I've seen, one of the best in the business. I'm also impressed by the partners he's worked with, including newcomers like Christopher Hopper, who brings his own voice to these books. While this series isn't my all-time favorite Chaney series (that would be Renegade Star), it is certainly close.
And then, of course, there is R.C. Bray. I had only listened to a few audiobooks with Bray before this series, but I have to tell you, this has been his best work so far. I've been told he did a splendid job with other books (which I plan to read), but even still, I am a fan. His voice fits the story perfectly and matches the narrative voice with such precision and elegance that you'd think these books were written for him.
Overall, if you like scifi, read these books. If you're a veteran or active duty servicemen, read them. Or if you just want a fun time with some great characters, buckle up and get ready for a journey.
