Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Sylvain Reynard returns with the fourth installment of the beloved Gabriel's Inferno series.

When Gabriel and Julia Emerson first lay eyes on their newborn daughter, Clare, they realize life as they know it will never be the same. Gabriel has vowed to be a good father when he suddenly receives an invitation to give a series of lectures in Edinburgh, Scotland - an opportunity of high prestige - but that would mean leaving his wife and child in Boston. Hesitant to bring it up, he keeps the opportunity from Julia as long as he can, not knowing she has a secret of her own.

When a frightening situation arises that threatens their new family, both parents must make sacrifices. With the family in danger, the looming question remains: Will Gabriel pursue his lectureship in Edinburgh, leaving Julia and Clare vulnerable in Boston, or will he abandon the chance of a lifetime in order to ensure his family's safety?

Love Book 4... EXCEPT for new unanswered questions

I have to start with praise for Robertson Dean. After the sad loss of John Morgan, I wasn't sure that there would be another narrator who could properly capture the snobbery and snark that is Professor Emerson. This is my first narration by Robertson Dean, and I all I can say is very well done, sir! His narration was excellent, and his interpretation of Professor Emerson, Julia and all the other characters we know and love was both excellent and true to the first 3 books. I cannot recommend the narration more.

My issue is with the story. While I was very happy that Sylvain Reynard wrote this 4th book, I had been content with the completion of the trilogy. I felt all the characters' story arcs had completed quite satisfactorily. What this book did was provide me a lovely look into what happened next with the Emersons, but it also left me with quite the list of unanswered questions. Who is the new nemesis? The version of Paul who could be untrue is also disheartening. What happens there? I know that these books have been options to Passionflix for movies. Are the unanswered questions purposeful in order to create a need for more books to require more movies?

Do I recommend this book? Yes. Is it worth the credit? Yes. But go into it forewarned that you will not close the cover with a contented feeling of closure. I would not go as far as to say that there is a cliffhanger, but I would say it feels as though there is a missing chapter or two. Be on the look out for Gabriel 5.

Disappointed

I loved the first three books in Gabriel story and super excited to see Gabriel's Promise. The story was rushed and left unanswered questions. Hate I wasted a credit on this book. Unless Mr. Reynard is planning another installment this book was a wasted read.

I miss the narrator from the first 3 books.

The story is pretty good, not as deep at the first books in the series. But I just cannot get behind this narration. His voice is too deep and ragged for my taste! just my opinion though!

An incredible love story that is timeless

This series is incredible and undoubtedly the best collection I have ever read and listened to. What Sylvain Reynard has written is beautiful and timeless. As a reader, I feel as if I’m transported to the past where Dante and Beatrice existed and then to the present to Gabriel and Julia living the love story that was cut short for D&B. I absolutely with all my heart enjoyed every word to this amazing book. Thank you, SR for giving us the professor.

I need more, more, more!!!

It was wonderful to catch up with Gabriel and Julianne. We got a snippet of them in The Florentine books. Sylvain Reynard never disappoints. The writing always makes me feel like I am there. The descriptions brings places and characters alive. I have become more interested in Italian art and Italy reading Gabriel’s Inferno and The Florentine books.

This audible version of the continuation of Gabriel’s story is a must listen!

The audible version of Gabriel’s Promise is a must listen as it adds so much depth and greater understanding to the story. Gabriel’s Promise is another beautifully written story by Sylvain Reynard as Gabriel and Julia’s story continues, now with baby Clare. There are new challenges and danger and the door is left open for more...which I truly hope happens. I highly recommend reading the Florentine series as William and Raven’s story takes place after Gabriel’s Promise and features the Emersons. And. It’s a beautifully written series as well. You’ll also want to explore THE MAN IN THE BLACK SUIT as Nicholas is featured in Gabriel’s Promise. A great stand alone novel. And. The audio versions of all of Sylvain Reynard’s books are my favorites. Highly recommend.

The Emerson’s return

I was very excited to continue reading about the Emerson’s. The 1st three books were nothing short of fantastic. Mr. Reynard has a way of writing that keeps you drawn in to the story. I’ve noticed that some of the “more popular romance writers” have taken to repeating a phrase or several words, continually throughout their book, that only accomplishes filling a page with words and offers no additional plot. Mr. Reynard moves the story forward and gives the reader continual glimpses into a character’s story without setting the plot line on repeat - hallelujah!
As for this, the 4th book in this series, I found it to be a transition story from the early relationship of Julianne and Gabriel, their marriage and birth of their daughter to post birth and navigating becoming a family of three along with balancing their careers, school work and teaching classes.
Without giving too much away, the reader gets to see the slowest ride home from the hospital. And yes, Gabriel is Gabriel when it comes to protecting his family - obsessively so, much to the delight of this reader. They arrive home to a house full of Gabriel’s family - Richard, Rachel, Scott, etc and then of the story goes from there.
There is a wonderful opportunity offered to Gabriel along with Julianne navigating the world of academia once again. Kathryn Pichton, Paul Norris and Prof Woodhouse make appearances, too.
The Emerson’s are threatened when someone breaks into their home while they are sleeping (Julianne’s uncle Jack returns to investigate). It appears to revolve around certain art work that the Emerson’s own. Adding to their worries is Julianne navigating a male dominated area of studies in which she shines, which some persons try to use against her due to petty jealousies. These two plot lines in the book are left undone but not in a huge cliffhanger kind of way. They are laid out subtly but it is obvious that those threads leave an opening for another book.
I await the 5th book of this very interesting couple and their families and friends.
Hurry Mr. Reynard!

Sylvain Reynard did not disappoint!

After several years of waiting, Gabriel’s Promise lives up to the same high standard of book one and two and in my opinion surpassed book three. I took the day off and read the whole book!! I’m excited that there were some open ended events that might lead to a book four!! Please make it so.

Phenomenal 5 star top series ever!

It’s been a while since Gabriel’s Redemption was published, but even then, I wanted more. Gabriel’s Promise is that more I wanted and much more. Gabriel and Julianne’s story has been a part of my life for a decade now. Sylvain Reynard story is one that will transcend time. Not only because the romance story behind it, but all the knowledge you get from them, you will find Dante Alighieri, Botticelli along with C.S. Lewis work within these pages. You get a music playlist that will make your emotions more real.

I have read hundreds of books since Gabriel’s Inferno, none of them have the elements I have found within the series. I suggest you read all of SR books, as you will find some connecting dots with this one.

Needless to say, this book is a must read more than 5 stars and a series you need to have on your shelf.

Don’t forget to sign up for Passionflix, as you will be getting this beloved story on screen soon!

Superb addition to The Gabriel Series!!!!

Gabriel is a new man. Beautiful story SR, Gabriel has embraced fatherhood. Juileanne has become even more fierce as a women, mother and student. The reaction to Flamingoes made me laugh out loud. I do hope we see the Emerson's again. A wonderful addition to this superb and outstanding book series.
