"A gripping tale of a dream vacation that goes horribly wrong." (Mark Alpert, internationally best-selling author of Saint Joan of New York)

Trapped on a storm-damaged yacht, a grieving woman must conquer her worst fears and fight for her life, in a story described as The Shining on a yacht. Dr. Dagny Steele is on the verge of fulfilling her lifelong calling to become a pediatric surgeon, when the sudden death of her daughter sends her into a crushing depression.

Grief-stricken and desperate to heal, she takes a leave of absence and sails across the Indian Ocean with her husband. Dagny begins to recover from her tragic loss when her voyage turns into a nightmare. Isolated and hunted at sea, can she survive a deadly crucible?

Mixed feelings

This book started out good and the story line was good too. But it went on way to long and described so much that really had no purpose.
That being said, I think if they a had a better narrator, that would have helped the story a lot (I mean A LOT)too.

So disappointed.

Tedious story. Why a male reader when the story is told from perspective of a female? Had trouble completing.

Surprised I hung in

More like a fantasy than a plain novel. What next, flying monkeys? Too far fetched that two mds would not recognize rabies. One physician kept asking how you feeling? That is not how a physician thinks. Then as I mentally predicted very happy ending.

Sailing into tedium

Boring, tedious and slow moving. Author kept repeating the same information over and over. Other times gave just plain unnecessary and boring information for lack of anything better to add to the storyline. Narrator used same voice for male and female and there were times at the beginning of the story that I wasn't sure who it was that said what (him or her). Further into the story, he was overly dramatic (sickenly so). I wouldn't recommend the book and had an hour left of it when I'd had enough! Just couldn't stand and could care less about finishing it. I'm asking for my credit back.

Great read!!!

After more than 30 years of marriage, my wife and I finally have agreed on a great read!
Furious kept us both on the edge of our seat. It was both entertaining and exciting! Jeffrey Higgins is a gifted author. I can’t wait till his next book.

Cujo on a sailboat.

I listened to the entire book despite being uninspired by both the story and the narrator. I found the plot to border on preposterous and the last third of the story (monster chases damsel in close quarters) to be wholly unoriginal.

Oy vey

I find it hard to believe that anyone in their right mind could have enjoyed this book. Maybe they should get checked for rabies. As soon as I heard a male narrator (and a horrible one at that) for a female character, I knew I just wasted a credit. Please someone tell me how these two imbeciles can be surgical doctors in Massachusetts, where the woman is grieving the loss of her baby, and they think that they can sail across the Indian Ocean, just the two of them, on a yacht they have never stepped foot upon. No crew, no captain, no witnesses. The woman is terrified of the water, hasn’t sailed in 30 years, is grieving, and doesn’t trust her husband- the man who has anger issues, is a misogynist and a liar, oh, and also has a violent temper and tells her “not to worry” repeatedly about things that she should be worrying about. And then as soon as they hit the open sea, and will be in the middle of nowhere (really nowhere) with no other souls around except for a great white shark that is following their boat, she has the brilliant idea that she is going to tell her husband she doesn’t love him and wants a divorce. lol. Man, wait, WOMAN overboard!!!!
Actually I have to idea how it ends. I can’t finish it bc my eyes will fall out of my head from rolling them so much.
