Publisher's summary

Humanity has spent its time enjoying the peace that can only be had through blissful ignorance. For centuries, stories of things that go "bump" in the night have been passed down and shared. When creatures of the night proved to be real, the best of America's military came together to form an elite band of rapid response teams. Their mission: to face the challenge and keep the civilian populace safe from those threats and hide all evidence of their existence.

Now, as the Monster Squad has begun to rebuild themselves from a crippling blow, they face not only the monsters of the dark, but some begin to question the loyalty of members within their elite group. Will they fight as one cohesive unit, or be torn apart by internal strife and fall under the crushing heel of evil? Will they actually contemplate forming an alliance with the very monsters they've been battling as a dark storm brews on the horizon - a storm that threatens not just the squads, but the lives of every human on earth.

Plots, Counter-plots, Revelations and Action!

While I really enjoyed the first book, and gave it a 5 star rating, I was hoping the second installment of the Monster Squad books would be even better, and it did not disappoint. There was a lot of back story added for both protagonists and antagonists, and the action scenes were really ratcheted up! The story of the Vampire and Werewolf origins is , well, biblical. No spoilers, but I thought it was a good touch. I loved all the back room dealing going on with the different vampire clans, and really enjoyed the cat and mouse aspect of it. I thought the actions scenes were well staged and believable, and the revaluations about the different characters motivations really kept me hooked. Good world building, as well as excellent character building make me gladly recommend this series. I cant wait for the next one to come out. The Narration was good, although he does try too hard on one character to give him a super raspy voice that was a little off in my book, but overall, a good job of telling the story.

Great mix of scifi & military action

Where does Full Moon Rising rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

8 out of 10

What was one of the most memorable moments of Full Moon Rising?

When the wife & mother find the base & break in & meet the group.

What does Jack Voorhies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jack is the best part of this book. He keeps you interested and does not put you to sleep. He has a fantastic way of expression that you feel like he is right there with you. He makes all of the characters sound so different that you would not believe that there is only one person reading it. I would listen to his books anytime. I am very picky about the books that I listen to, I do not like just anybody that narrates audio books. They have to be able to keep my attention and not be monotone and Jack is fantastic at keeping ones interest.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

another great entry into the series.

special guest has arrived. I won't say any names but it's should be well recieved. if you enjoyed book 1 then book 2 will just make it even better. story structure is stronger and all that. all around great story. the narrator knocks this series out of the park.

I will be finishing this series

What happens when you have spent your entire military career fighting monsters and keeping the human race safe only to discover that you are one of the monsters? An elite squad of men and women has been keeping the human race safe from vampires and werewolves and other paranormal “monsters.”  What they didn’t know was that their superhuman strength and abilities to move at the speed of light was far more than a mere drug to heighten their innate skills.

In this book Jack returns to this squad a married man with a mother-in-law – Nadia and Natasha both have realized something dark and deadly is coming and they try to help the hunters.  Bombarded with new information on the augmentation, the squad is fighting internally, struggling with the information that they are now werewolves.  Not only do they have to accept what they are but now they are joining forces with vampires and others to defeat a common enemy.  The Sicarii are deadly and making their moves – wait until you discover who is behind the Sicarii and what he is planning!

The author, Heath Stallcup did an amazing job with details, planning and executing a clear plot; the plot could easily have become convoluted and confusing. It is evident that Stallcup took his time developing characters, story lines and twists and turns.  I did appreciate his paying homage to Mark Tufo (one of my favorite zombie authors as well) – when I heard the name of the ex-monster squad member I have to admit my mouth fell open.   I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I have not experienced the first book yet, but plan to do so soon.  I thought this book was a good segue into the next book in the series.  Although I have not read or heard the first one, I can honestly say I will be finishing this series.

Jack Voorhies was a solid narrator.  His talented voice made the characters realistic and different enough to tell them apart.  There were no hokey or annoying voices – the characters were represented much like I envisioned.  He seemed as caught up in the story as his listeners.  He spoke with a rhythm that was engrossing.  One knew when there was action coming as he began to pick up appropriately.  Voorhies brought the characters to life in my opinion.  He has moved onto my “love to listen to” list.

There were no issues with the production.

The narrator pulled me in!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The story is fun and easy to follow, and the narration is top quality. I listen to a lot of Audiobooks while going about my day, and there have been few narrators I've encountered over the years that I've enjoyed as much as Jack Voorhies.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Rufus was my favorite. A cultured "vegetarian" vampire assisted by werewolves makes for a very interesting character.

Which character – as performed by Jack Voorhies – was your favorite?

Again, Rufus was my favorite. Jack does a delightfully classic Dracula accent, but it sounds so smooth and sophisticated (and somehow also French!) that it comes off as the perfect voice for this character. He also does an awesome job at making Sanchez a fiery Latino lady that you love to hear talk. Not a lot of male narrators do a good job with female characters, but Jack is an exception to that rule. He puts as much life into his female characters as he does the men.

Any additional comments?

Listen to this book for the narrator, if no other reason. This is not the kind of story I would normally read, but Jack's narration had me hooked from the get-go. He is excellent at establishing all the characters in your mind by giving them each a unique voice. He is entertaining and reads every line of dialogue with all he's got. I was sucked in because the story telling was performed so well. I have heard many different Audiobook narrators over the years and Jack is one of the best. He can do silly and serious, perform all sorts of accents, and his speech is always clear and easy to understand. I give him full marks and hope to hear him read more soon. A good narrator makes a fun book super enjoyable, and Jack's talents really makes this story sparkle.

I like the story, but the narrator.....

The story is nicely layer out, but the narrator is terrible. The characters sound similar, almost all the antagonist sound like someone in the bush family, and his timing.... also what's up with the dings??

Fantastic continuation of the series.

I just love this book, which picks right up from the first book and continues the roller-coaster ride. I an also still increasing my respect for Heath. Top shelf writing! If you start reading this book, stop. Read the first book, first. I highly recommend this series. Now for the obligatory: "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Another Solid Installment for the Monster Squad!!!

What did you love best about Full Moon Rising?

It's imaginative; it rejuvenates a youthful part of my mind that was dormant for some time...

What other book might you compare Full Moon Rising to and why?

It's gritty in ways that other books of it's sort were not...I'm not sure if there is a comparison that does it justice.

What does Jack Voorhies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator provides a voice to each individual character which allows my mind to just follow the tale that's being told and not have to work that part out. It's brings clarity to the emotional content of each situation which gives me an opportunity to engross myself in the story and truly gain the suspension of disbelief required for a book of this genre.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Sometimes it takes a monster to catch a monster...

Any additional comments?

Great all around experience...
