Publisher's summary

Murder. It’s a perennial problem.

Verity Hawkes is a shut-in. After two years bunkered in her apartment, the only thing that gets her out is the disappearance of her beloved but eccentric aunt. As she takes over her aunt’s landscaping shop, she’ll need to go from hoarder to horticulturist in a hurry....

Her new home of Leafy Hollow is quaint, except for her most obnoxious client. When a series of freak accidents kills the customer, all signs point to Verity as the killer.

The hunt for answers is on, and Verity must question a tipsy carpenter, a bacon-peddling vegan restaurateur, and her dreamy landscaping competitor to keep her new life afloat. Failure to find the truth could put her back in a confined space for much more than two years....

From Garden to Grave is the first book in a series of delightfully funny cozy mysteries. If you like lovably quirky characters, deceptively idyllic Canadian villages, and twists you won’t see coming, then you’ll love Rickie Blair’s Leafy Hollow Mysteries series.

From Garden to Grave

What happened to Verity’s aunt? The case has gone cold and she is assumed dead. Now, as her heir, it’s up to Verity to take care of her business and home. As the only newcomer to the area, she finds herself in the middle of a strange set of circumstances that sets her up as a murder suspect.

After a bit of a slow start, things picked up. Rickie Blair introduces quite a few quirky characters and some great plot twists. There’s a great ending and setup for the next story.

Peter’s Burchard delivered an entertaining performance.

Great series!

I can't believe i haven't tried this series before now! Verity Hawked is a recluse but the disappearance of her aunt has her travelling to her home to find her. She ends up against her will taking over her aunt's landscaping business but ends up in over her head. Due to some crazy accidents she ends up becoming a suspect in a murder. She must come out of her shell and track a killer before she's next! This book had me chuckling out loud quite a few times and I fell in love with the characters. I will definitely be reading this entire series!

THIS IS A PROMISING NEW-TO-ME SERIES

I RATED THE BOOK A 4 RATHER THAN 5 BECAUSE IT TOOK TOO LONG TO GET TO THE POINT. I GREW WEARY OF THE REPETITIVE YARD WORK ISSUES AND OTHER REDUNDANCIES OR DETAILS THAT DELAYED MOVING THE ACTUAL STORY. HAVING SAID THAT, I REALIZE FIRST BOOKS IN A SERIES OFTEN HAVE SOME OF THESE ISSUES, AND I THINK I AM GOING TO LIKE THESE CHARACTERS AND BOTH THE OVERT AND UNDERLYING INVESTIGATIONS. I AM BUYING BOOK 2 NOW.

interesting story

The story line was interesting but I had trouble finishing the audio. As it was likely me rather than the book, I'm giving it a high rating and letting other readers take a crack at it again n their own.

Enjoyable Cozy Mystery

For two years Verity Hawkes has been hiding in her apartment not dealing with the grief of her husband's death. An unexpected phone call from her eccentric aunt's attorney turns her life upside down as she travels across the country to take charge of her missing (presumed dead) aunt's estate and business. Arriving in Leafy Hollow, Verity discovers her aunt's house is run down and her lawn and garden business is on the verge of collapse. Very shortly, Verity finds herself the subject of a murder investigation. With the help of her new friends, Verity and crew set off to solve the mystery of the murder. Through it all with humor and unexpected twists, Verity discovers there is hope after death, friends are made and there is a life to be lived.

This cozy mystery was very enjoyable to listen to. The periodic Canadian references were a fresh change of pace. The narrator was good and did a credible job voicing the various characters.

I will look forward to future books in the series.
