Freehaven Online is more than a game to Justine. By day, she creates monsters for the world, by night she's raiding dungeons. Most importantly, it's her one connection to her dead brother whose buffs still linger within the game.

When his virtual shrine is threatened by an update, Justine reforges his guild to complete the Dragonsbane quest in his honor. As an experienced tank, she's no stranger to the bandit attacks, PvP combat, and dragons Freehaven will throw at her.

Little does she know, a hacker organization known as Archangel tampers with the update, leaving thousands of players, including Justine, stranded in full immersion virtual reality. As if that weren't strange enough, NPCs are getting smarter, and some marooned players don't want to escape. They're ready to jump at the chance for virtual immortality.

Justine must temper the fervent emotions stirring in her guild and unite them to complete the quest. If she doesn't, friends will break from sanity, and others will die in real life.

Great story and good narration!

A game programmer dealing with the tragic loss of her brother gets trapped in the game world that he so loved. With a fantastical quest, an empty guild to rebuild, and a trapped populace, things a shore to get crazy as she struggles to find a way to let people return to their own world...

The narrator's cadence was a bit slow for my taste, but I increased the play speed just a bit and it transformed the performance into a very enjoyable experience.

I really like this one - I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Delightful!!!

This book rocks because it not only has solid battle sequences, and dragon pummeling action, but because it's founded on a heartfelt emotional core that many LitRPGs are lacking. In game actions have real world consequences. The idea of using the game to keep someone's memory alive was touching, and the entire cast has enough depth to them that they feel like real people.

Amy Landon owned this performance. She speaks clearly with multiple accents, and infuses every character with life.

The bottom line is that this book is filled with a bit of humor, exciting quests, well choreographed fights, and a twist at the end that'll stab you in the heart. There's no cliffhanger ending, but a lot of room for the story to expand in future novels.

The worst thing about this is that I'll have to wait a few months for book 2, and knowing that there's no where in the world I can buy a magic elemental powered motorcycle. Book three is already on Amazon, so I guess there's more to come.

IT'S DRAGON-A-GEDDON!

I first heard Amy Landon when I listened to Book 1 of The Villains Code.
She was solid there, and not bad here.
Her inflections have a tendency to come off stilted and most characters sound alike via their specific speech patterns rather than their voices.
It’s by no means a deal breaker, but its not very riveting either.
The book is about what you’d expect from most LitRPG fare, but with a more sympathetic and emotional foundation, which I think is sorely needed in a genre like this. I wouldn’t call the writing weak, I certainly could not do better, but the dialogue can grow tiresome, with all the
“I said, Then he said, then she said, then I said”
It makes all of the important talking points seem a bit less organic.
Overall, it’s a fun listen, and is competently narrated, despite my mild complaints. If you have a credit to burn and enjoy the genre, go for it.

A firm 3.5 stars.

Reminded me alot of many other stories combined into one without the flair of any

Very cliche, can be compared to many other stories

The second the they intro another female character I thought SAO. Then things turn mysterious it pretty much sealed the deal on that thought. When they exploration on their new situation began Log Horizon popped up. Granted not a bad thing but couldnt help and see the insane amount of similarities.

Not a bad book, still enjoyed it alot.

Basically SAO + Log Horizon

I think I really would enjoy the story if I were reading it, but I just can't handle the narrator. she does alright with the voices, but she gets into a particular rhythm and tonal cadence that just... it's very repetitive and grates on my nerves.

cadence-bound narrator

I really like that the characters are already established in the game. Too often we have to start from square one. I liked this small difference.

Narration is a bit off pace but if you speed it up a bit it sounds pretty good. The main character really deals with issue in a very refreshing and beautiful way. I honestly really enjoyed the emotional conflicts that the characters had as they seemed really realistic. Main character was a bit too op but it's worth the listen.

Tackles some issues very well

I didn't know what it was at first, I thought it was just me...but it wasn't. I think the story would be awesome if it were read by a different person, or if I just read it myself, but listening to the reader killed me. She does a good impression of characters for the most part, but her style of speech/cadence is absolutely abhorrent to my ears. I couldn't get through it.
