Publisher's Summary

Anne McCaffrey captured the interest and hearts of many with Freedom's Landing, as Catteni slaves unexpectedly became settlers establishing a new colony on Botany, presumably an uninhabited M-type planet. In Freedom's Choice, the saga progresses to an extraordinary level.

The shipments of Catteni slaves continue, but they find that they are enjoyably reinventing the creature comforts of home, and searching for the origin of the Farmers who were the original occupants of Botany, all under the keen eyes of two very different observers.

When scouts for the Emassi come to retrieve Zainal, shanghaied in the original shipment of slaves, Botany changes irrevocably.

Listeners will delight in this continued adventure of survival, romance, and ingenuity.

We finally meet the Farmers

This second book in the series has the colony continuing to prosper and they also finally meet the farmers. On an odd note Zynel seems to be the only one of his kind that is actively given a chance to show a different side of the Catteni. Aside from that the book is fairly even handed and well written.

spoiler alert ***** drunk rape

I wanted to only say amazing things about this performance, it was a bit of a shock at first but very amazing to have multiple voice actors along with the narrator when the first in the series only had the single narrator. However, halfway through this story I got hit with such a shock that it has left a sour taste. The main character Chris has been a strong fierce no nonsense powerful woman throughout, until the author decided to add pregnancy. Because Chris cannot breed with Zainel, she had to get pregnant from another human. In order to achieve this, the author caused a broken arm and to dull the pain a man took care of her and they both got drunk and ended up in bed together in chapter 9 or 10. Chris just let it slide. "Oh we were drunk and I think I enjoyed myself so it's fine." No. No no no no. Chris would have been so guilt ridden for cheating on her mate as well as infuriated over being taken advantage. It was absolutely out of character and it sickens me. Near the end of the book she got upset about a different man sitting close and touching thighs. But being raped while drunk off hooch was no problem. This is not okay.

Narration changed

loved the book. the woman narrating it is awesome. my only complaint is them adding more people to the narration for the male voices. completely different from the first book in the series. Definitely prefer the way the first book was done.

an improvement in narration

The addition of Dick Hill as male narrator greatly improves the story and makes it more enjoyable. I was able to delve into the audio version and really feel the characters come alive. Kudos for the improvements.

one of the best performances I've heard

Simply one of the best books I've heard since I got Audible. The performance of all the voice actors is astounding. I love the male/ female split of the characters. Above All That when the actors speak you can tell what character is speaking it's amazing.

a good 2nd stage development story

I had started this series by reading the first book decades ago, but never finished it.Audible is making it possible for ne to remain productive while tasking. This recording has good pacing for listening and the dialect /pitch/ accent traits by the voice actors is quite accomplished. I will be loading up book 3 to finish the series.

Exceptional! Anne McCaffrey Rocks!

This story shows how human beings can work together with others rather they are their own species or the other species. It always seems there’s at least one non-conformist in the group. Yet with perseverance we Humans will prevail. And that if we all work together we can have a better life. All lives matter! Anne’s books all reflect what drive, love and dedication the Human race is capable of! She has a huge heart and a brilliant mind. Read all her books! They’re some of the best reading materials I have found. I’m grateful to her for taking me on many adventures beautifully told!

One of my favorite book series!

Susie Breck was was wonderful.
However, after having read all 4 books, of the series, numerous times, Dick Hill's voices, didn't sound right, seeming out of place, for the male characters, spoiling the enjoyment, of the reading, for me.
