This 1754 work by Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) is subtitled An Inquiry into the Modern Prevailing Notions of the Freedom of the Will Which Is Supposed to Be Essential to Moral Agency, Virtue and Vice, Reward and Punishment, Praise and Blame. Edwards was a Christian reformer, theologian, and author in the Calvinist tradition, and in this work he explores the necessity of divine grace for the redeeming of the damaged will of humanity. He contends that free will is an extension of, and connected to, the grace of God. Freedom of the Will is still being debated in the 21st century and remains among the essential material of a thinker whose insights inspired the 18th century Great Awakening, which continues to influence American Protestantism to this day.

I enjoyed how Jonathan Edwards writes about the will and discussion about will and desire.

Great discussion about the will

Great book, hard to understand, missing the whole last part--compare to the Kindle edition or whatever. Missing Part 4 sections 8-13 and the last chapter titled "The Conclusion." Don't buy this in Audible until they fix it.

As to content, I am glad to read of the limitlessness of God. It ought not to be our desire to be limitless in will, because that was the first lie of Satan. Edwards explains the limits and abilities of the human will with much precision and depth.

Missing 7 chapters! (Part 4, Sec 8-13, Conclusion)
