Heartbreaking

So much more than a story about monsters. This is a classic in every sense. Beautiful, heartbreaking, and full of wisdom.

Love this edition

Was surprised to hear Jamie Bell as a narrator but his performance is very smooth and believable of the characters and entertaining for 8 hours.

Good for what it was and for when it was written.

This is a good story for the time period it was written.

Within the context of today, it is dumb. I now know why Hollywood constructs movies about Frankenstein around the theme(s) of the book and chooses not to strictly follow the source material. It is so heavy on self-loathing, hypocrisy, and self-tormenting, that it glosses over everything else.

This would have worked a lot better as a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde type story. Up until the last 40 min, I thought that was where it was going, especially since Frankenstein was written well before Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

The whiny monologues were too many and the soapboxes that the two main characters kept getting in were excessive.

Jamie Bell does a great job, especially conveying the internal struggle each character has. The only miss is that when more than one character is present, he doesn’t do much to distinguish between them and it can get confusing on who is talking or who’s perspective you are seeing thing through.

Classic with Great Narration

This story presents a lot to think about. Frankenstein plays God, then can't control his creation. So many lives are affected by the tragic events in this tale. So many questions to consider. The performance by Jamie Bell was excellent.

Outstanding story, read with a lot of whining and overwrought emotion

I love this book. It’s classic, engaging, and still relevant.

I did not love this particular narration of it. Jamie Bell made the stylistic choice to read all the dialogue with a lot of drama and overwrought emotion, and it just makes the characters whiny and unpleasant to listen to. The book is already written in very feeling, complaining words that become excessive when amplified by indulgent narration. think this book is best read with simple, calm intonation, which helps counter the flowery language.
