Frank took a long slow drag on a cigarette. "I’ve only got two pieces of advice for people who wanna listen to this case file. First of all, if you’re easily offended, or of a nervous disposition, keep your money, spend it on…what does two bucks buy you today, a box of matches?"
He choked on cigarette smoke, steadying himself with a shot of bourbon. "Ahhh, but if you decide to listen to it, whatever you, don’t listen to it sitting on the pan."

Frank Midgette's job is homicide. For 35 years he has worked case after case and not once has he had a case like this. "A real kick to the nuts" kind of investigation. His new partner learns he has no regrets or feel bad about any perpetrator he comes in contact with. But when these two get deep into this investigation, they learn the real issue is within his own workplace.

He choked on cigarette smoke, steadying himself with a shot of bourbon, ‘Ahhh, but if you decide to read it whatever you do don’t read it sitting on the pan.’

In this story he deals with an incredibly grusome form of death, with twists and turns leading to a surprising finish.
You may not like Frank (don't pronounce it 'midget'!) but he never ceases to entertain with his snark and VERY non-PC insults and references.
Interesting story premise (but I may have nightmares about it), narration by Brian Hess is good but were some minor issues with recording quality. Oliver Strong shows that he can write an entertaining story across multiple genres with this work.

I liked the overall story together with the run down precinct, it was well written and engaging. A good short read for crime fans.
There are a lot of stereotypes shown in this book which I hope is down to the fact the book is written in Franks point of view.
I will say that personally I found some of the language used by Frank doesn’t really flow for a book published in 2015 but I understand that for his character it may make sense and other readers may not have a problem with it.
Finally thank you to Oliver Strong for providing me with a copy of the book the review, I had fun listening to it on my commute.
