Publisher's Summary

The aunties are back, fiercer than ever and ready to handle any catastrophe - even the mafia - in this delightful and hilarious sequel by Jesse Q. Sutanto, author of Dial A for Aunties.

Meddy Chan has been to countless weddings, but she never imagined how her own would turn out. Now the day has arrived, and she can't wait to marry her college sweetheart, Nathan. Instead of having Ma and the aunts cater to her wedding, Meddy wants them to enjoy the day as guests. As a compromise, they find the perfect wedding vendors: a Chinese Indonesian family-run company just like theirs. Meddy is hesitant at first, but she hits it off right away with the wedding photographer, Staphanie, who reminds Meddy of herself, down to the unfortunately misspelled name.

Meddy realizes that is where their similarities end, however, when she overhears Staphanie talking about taking out a target. Horrified, Meddy can't believe Staphanie and her family aren’t just like her own, they are The Family - actual mafia, and they're using Meddy's wedding as a chance to conduct shady business. Her aunties and mother won’t let Meddy’s wedding ceremony become a murder scene - over their dead bodies - and will do whatever it takes to save her special day, even if it means taking on the mafia.

Critic Reviews

"Meddy Chan and her indomitable aunties are back in the hilarious Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Q. Sutanto."—PopSugar

“Sutanto deftly blends preposterous humor (British slang, mafia posers) with enduring devotion to prove ‘there is no right or wrongway to ‘being Asian.’”—Booklist

“Charming, chaotic, and sometimes ridiculous, this tale will appeal to anyone who both adores and is embarrassed by their family, which is just about everyone.”—Publishers Weekly

Setting ruins it

The story and delightful hijinks were undercut by the setting of Meddy’s wedding. For a bride to be MIA for almost the entirety of the wedding coupled with the dont-let-Nathan-find-out plot device was too much to overlook. I hate when the main problem in the story is something that capsule be solved with a simple, honest conversation. It would have been much more enjoyable if the sequel let Nathan really be a part of the family instead of waiting on hold until it was convenient to bring him back into the plot. It was a sequel not worthy of its predecessor.

Fun, Chaotic, and Hilarious Characters

This book is fun, chaotic, sweet, and hilarious. The mc’s mother and aunts are my favorite parts of the story. I also noticed a bit of Meddy’s growth and maturity in this book versus the first one, which is a plus. I loved when she stood up for her family. It’s a fast read and a good time. Last but not least, I respect and appreciate how Jesse Q. Sutanto wanted to focus on the different Asian diaspora experiences:

"The experience really hammered home how different every Asian diaspora experience is. A lot of the time, we tend to get lumped into one single category: Asian. An umbrella term that ignores the huge differences that arise based on not just where we’re from, but when we left and where we settled down."

Lots of words.

The middle part was way to long for me. I Loved the first book and thought this one would be a great follow up, but so many words used that I often found myself thinking “get too the point”.

Got me feel different emotions

Well this book has been so hilarious! Some parts made me so frustrated on how stupid the characters were in certain situations and that means it is super effective otherwise I wouldn’t remember or feel anything about it. I love this and the first book!

Not As Good As First

I liked this second book in the sequel, however, it did not keep me laughing like the first one. I’m glad I did the audiobook again. I highly recommend the audiobooks.

Satire twists and humour

I really enjoyed this book ,maby more than the first in this series....and that one was good! This is full of comedy and wit....Family tries to band together to solve a problem.......unintentionally causing more. As they get into it deeper, the funnier and crazier it gets. The narrator does a terrific job in bringing the characters to life. I hope this authors writes a lot of books in this series. I just love the twists , turms, and humor in this book!

Not as good as the first, but still good

Not as good as the first book. This one was much more chaotic and hard to follow but I still enjoyed the story.

It all makes sense in the end

This story was chaotic and astonishingly long for my taste. I loved the first book and this one started off great then went just a bit crazy and lengthy. There was a beautiful lesson in the end; which I am glad I hung around to receive.
