Publisher's Summary

What do you do when, just before Thanksgiving at your mother's, your 14-year-old son asks you to iron the dress he recently purchased and plans to wear? Listeners learn the answer and much more in this wonderfully frank, loving, and practical account of parenting a transgender teen.

Paria Hassouri chronicles what amounts to a dual transition: as her child transitions from male to female, she navigates through anger, denial, and grief to eventually arrive at acceptance. Despite her experience advising other parents in her work as a pediatrician, she was blindsided by her child's gender identity. Her journey forces her to reckon with how her own childhood as a brown kid in a white world led her to sometimes parent with fear rather than love. Hassouri discovers her capacity to evolve, as well as what it really means to parent and the deepest nature of unconditional love.

At its heart, Found in Transition is a universally inspiring portrait of what it means to be a family.

Truthful

I'm a Trans Woman. I had some difficulty in the early part of the book due to No.s word choices and attitude. I'm glad I kept listening because I come from a family that struggles with my gender identity. This book gave me insight from the perspective of a skeptical of non understanding Caregivers. I was able to make a call to someone who struggles and start an unlocking conversation. It also helped me understand the view of my journey from my families eyes. I'm able to start the process of letting the why go.

I appreciate the writers truthfulness which was cleansing for me with my not so distant past.

Paris Hassouri is an asset for our community and her daughter is wonderful, strong, courageous and Beautiful.

I definitely Recommend giving Found In Transition a listen and please use it a a resource.

Really was excited for this story

I wanted to like this story because I have so much in common with this author and my own teen daughter's transition but it just wasnt what I expected. The story was focused on the Mom and her life. Sure it was good to bond over similar feelings but there wasn't enough about her daughter's journey. Everything just seemed a bit too easy and textbook. No depression or long waits for appointments. School was "great" and all her friends accepted her without any issue. This reminded of that series I am Jazz. Too perfect. Sorry...just one mom's opinion.

Honest and vulnerable, funny and sad. A great read. I would highly recommend it, especially for parents of trans or questioning teens.

One of the best trans related books I've read!

This book hit home on so many levels. The sheer honesty and realness to Paria's reactions and feelings is something that just resonated. I know it's how my own mother would likely act. It’s really such an amazing book.

Exactly what I need to hear- someone else’s experience

Very well written, you get to hear the inner workings of a loving mom’s thoughts as she grapples with the news of having a trans child, followed by all the back and forth thoughts a parent goes through.

I resonated with many of the same thoughts and felt comforted to know I wasn’t alone.

A Must Read for Every Parent of a Transgender Teen

Paria’s book is a truly honest, heartfelt, provocative, inspiring, intimate journey that is a must read as a parent of a child who is transgender. I could relate to every feeling that she so perfectly captures with her gift of storytelling. Paria gives hope that there is light not only at the end of this journey, but in the moments when you can stop, breathe, and take in the gifts that are right before your eyes for the entire family.

Needed to hear this

This was everything... smiles and tears as I listened to what sounded exactly like my own journey. Paria is a very relatable writer and parent going through what most of us did. And it just helped me so much to hear her raw honesty. I highly suggest this book for anyone - but especially parents of teen transgender children.
