"Technically, the board fired you. I just had the pleasure of witnessing the aftermath." I reach for a napkin from a nearby waiter's tray, who looks like he can't decide whether to help or run away. "And I have to say, your exit strategies are... memorable."

Someone in the crowd actually laughs. Probably the same person who said "Oh snap!" earlier. I make a mental note to find them later and either fire them or give them a raise.

Mackenzie crosses her arms. "And what makes you think I'd want to work for the company that just gutted mine?"

"Because you care more about the developers than your pride." I meet her gaze, champagne be damned. "And because you know that changing things from the inside is more effective than throwing champagne from the outside. Though I have to admit, the champagne made quite a statement."

Cute story, robot narration

This is a very cute story about finding love after 40 in the workplace. The side characters are hilarious and keep the book entertaining. This is a slow burn open door romance, but that is the part of the book flops completely. It is written in a mechanical way and lacks emotion or realism. The scene felt stuck in the book and was just meh. The ending is worth the listen/read.

As for the narration, it is literally done by a robot and lacks any and all emotion. You cannot tell when Alex is speaking vs Meg. Sometimes the emphasis in a sentence is completely wrong and changes the meaning of the sentence. couldn't believe how bad it was for the cost.

Only a few chapters in… and ugh

This is AI read it is awful. I am continuing because I do like the story line but it is awful listening. I hope this isn’t the future of audio books because it is nails on a chalkboard bad.

great story - not so good narration

Loved the premise of this book so I downloaded it, I guess I missed the narrated by AI in the description. I am not a fan of AI narration, they do not pronounce the same words the same way throughout the book, the emotional inflections are off and it is disturbing to say the least. Hot and heavy sounds like being read a computer program analysis. At least this book used both male and female narration to break up the mundane reading. I may go back and physically read this and the other books in this series, but no more AI for me.

When your first meeting involves you having just been fired and a bottle of champagne, you never know where you are going to end up. For a behavior consultant, the answer includes lots of flirting and a new position with lots of laughs along the way.

Wow. Just. Wow. The writing is so bad it’s like they asked AI to write this story. Very repetitive. If I had a dollar for every time revolution or revolutionary was said I’d be a millionaire. And the AI narrator voice was terrible. So robotic. Save yourself the wasted time and skip this one.
