Publisher's Summary

Sheriff Hayden Duke was born on the starship Pilgrim, like his father, and his father before him.

He expects to die any second.

He's already been attacked by demonic aliens, rogue soldiers, and even the people he thought were his friends.

He's survived. Barely.

Outcast. Forsaken. He's entered a strange new world. A world he knows nothing about. A world he's never stepped foot on before. A world where hope has been buried beneath the claws of monsters and the boots of a tyrant.

They took his wife. He has to find her. He has to survive. Another second. Another breath. He can never give up. He can never rest until she's back in his arms.

They'll try to stop him. They'll try to break him. Of course, they'll try. It won't be as easy as they think. A new hope is rising in an old world.

There's a new Sheriff in town.

lost its suspense

SPOILERS
once it was revealed where they actually were the story lost most of it inherent tension, which had been brought on by the pressure of a time limit due to the virus, the idea that the ship was falling apart and the need to sweep the ship clean because they had no where else to go. after the big reveal, which happened at the beginning of book 2, most of my interest in the story died pretty quickly. I made it through book 2 but to be honest i kept fast forwarding, just to see if he finds his wife. the change in location was a bad idea, the author should have kept the story inside the ship and waited for the big reveal until the end. i wanted my sci-fi space action/thriller, not YET ANOTHER dystopia novel. disappointing.

Awesome

Like the previous book this one kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The twists and turns in this series are awesome. If you enjoyed book one, pick this up.

So unintentionally campy, I can't stop listening

Overheard by Chains...

Scrapper Sargent: Just WTF are you!?
Hayden: I'm Sheriff Hayden Duke
Scrapper Sargent: Sheriff? Who made YOU sheriff?
Hayden: This crusty broken plastic badge from a Cracker Jack box with "SHERIFF" written on it, that's what!

Natalia: Hayden, we need to talk
Hayden: Sure hon, whatzup?
Natalia: It seems I'm preggers
Hayden: Oh, that's wonderful! Our one day conjugal allowance really paid off!
Natalia: Something else, I slept with my abductor, Ghost
Hayden: Completely understandable under the circumstances
Natalia: While I wasn't certain of your death, I seduced Ghost ... for you
Hayden: hmm, oooKAY, I can see your point of view
Natalia: Another thing, Hayden
Hayden: Yes, light of my life?
Natalia: About that conjugal visit thing
Hayden: Yes
Natalia: You shot blanks
Hayden: uh, hmm, that means ...
Natalia: Yes, it's Ghost's child
Hayden: No matter, we'll love it like it's our own

Natalia: So, how's your week been?
Hayden: While knowing your chances of being alive were slim to none, I went looking for you
Natalia: {sobbing} go on
Hayden: Got my hand chopped off but I endured and continued my search
Natalia: And?
Hayden: I was responsible for several good people dying on my self-interested quest to find you
Natalia: Oh, honey ...
Hayden: Even with slim odds, I resisted several sexual advances by beautiful women
Natalia: That's okay, I completely understand my ugly husband. That's who you are
Hayden: I love you, babe

Natalia: Heydan, there another thing I need to tell you
Hayden: Yes, sweet thing?
Natalia: I hacked the mainframe for the scrappers and gave them the entry codes for Pilgrim
Hayden: You mean these cannibals now will have access to the many thousands of innocent lives?
Natalia: Yes and, Hayden?
Hayden: Yes, my chaste Penelope? Wait!, definitely not HER! I mean, my loving wayward wife
Natalia: I also did that willingly ... for you
Hayden: Sweetheart, no truer love could one man ask for

A good premise but lackluster characters

I wanted to like this series so much i bought the second book, but enough is enough. It’s a great premise, and an interesting world, but the characters are thin and throwaway. And they are thrown away regularly, which makes it difficult to care.

Hard to finish.

Very simplistic writing and characters are very black and white with good and bad. The protoganists are too idealistic and unrealistic how a real person would act in the face of adversity.

Excellent look at post apocalyptic earth

I must have started farther along in this series on accident, but It's a great rendering of a new look how earth the great falls.

Unity 151 review

Cracking story.

Duke was a really cool character.

His secretary characters were good.

The twists I didn’t see coming and the action was really good.

I’m very happy with this book and expanding on the forgotten universe

i give up.

Sorry, but the main guy, the 'hero' of the story has just gotten too many people killed over one terribly bad decisiin after another. I have spent the whole time thinking that hes just a winging bitch and has just done nothing but get HUNDREDS of people killed because hes suffering from extreme seppartion anxiety and bad decisiin making.

You end up rooting for the bad guys or zombie things to disembowel him so the death and distruction can just end already.

Great Read

I am truly loving this series and it's only the 2nd book.
this keeps you wanting to know more, what happens next. I found myself struggling to stop to do life chores.
