Publisher's summary

The road has been punishing.

Traveling from Boston to ill-fated Fort Drum, then on to Philadelphia, and again to Mount Weather and Fort Stewart, the First Battalion, 55th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (Light) is run out, blown out, and virtually waiting for death's embrace. Now at the border of Georgia and Florida, the battalion receives new orders:

Encamp at Moody Air Force Base...

...and call in the Klowns.

Lieutenant Colonel Harry Lee knows this will spell the end of the battalion. But executing the mission could mean the the difference between life and death...not for the 1/55th, but for what remains of the United States of America.

Lee took an oath when he enlisted with the US Army. But he hadn't thought it was a suicide contract....

A strong and also sad ending

..to an absolutely amazing series.
Sad to hear about Joe passing, he will be missed.
I enjoyed the realism and attention to detail. Joe's experience with the police is clearly evident throughout the series. RC Bray returns for this final chapter and, as usual, never fails to deliver a great performance!

Loved it!

I’ve been listenin to this series for years now and it’s as awesome as ever. While it might not get the fan far of the Commune or Arisen series, it should. Craig DiLouie never lets you down so don’t hesitate to get this series or any of his others narrated by the fantastic as ever R.C. Bray.

Man!!! This book series was fire!!!

This is one of my Top 3!!!

1. The Arisen series
2. The Extension cycle
3. The Retreat

And can we job bow down and give R.C Bray his props for being the best narrator of all time.
I mean this man can read Charlottes Web and make it intensely good. This author did a hell of writing of this book series. Definite recommend.

Retreat Closes Out Strong

Very much enjoyed this final chapter in 'the Retreat' series. Mad clowns is such a great spin on the zombie genre and following the exploits of the remains of the 10th Mountain Division through the pandemic landscape was an exciting thrill ride. Craig Dilouie started the series and Stephen Knight took over to finish it. Both did an excellent job with the material. RC Bray narrated the Audible version with his usual excellence. My only compliant is that I hated to see it end.

Finally Got to Finish a Series I started 5 years Ago

Bray's performance is outstanding, as usual. I enjoyed this book a lot. Solid post-apocalyptic story with a fitting ending. I'd recommend to anyone that's a fan of the genre.

Sad that it is over.

What an amazing series. Sad that it is done. RC Bray remains the best at what he does.

This series will be missed!

What a fantastic series. My only disappointment out of all the books is it’s now over. Hopefully can bring back later with new stories. Amazing job by the writers and of course RC Bray!

Wraps it up

As violent and gory and gross as this series could be, I found it strangely calming on audio, no doubt thanks to Mr Bray. Great character voices. Story ended well, as well as it could anyway.
