Lady Bernadette Marie Burton may be the richest widow in England, but like her dreams of finding true passion, her reputation is deteriorating. Cruel gossip, loneliness, and hordes of opportunistic suitors have her believing society couldn't be more vile…or dangerous. So when an attacker threatens her life, she finds safety in the most unseemly of places: the arms of a mysterious, Irish-American gang leader.
His fortune stolen, young Matthew Milton is done playing the respectable gentleman. In the slums of New York, only ruffians thrive. But from the moment he arrives in London and encounters the voluptuous Lady Bernadette, he can't help but wonder about the finer pleasures he's missing. Or just how much he's willing to risk - not only to bed her, but to prove his worth….

Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator for one. I think she did a pretty good job with the narration for Matthew, but I didn't not like her voice for Bernadette. I think she did a better Irish accent than British accent.I also didn't really care for the story of Bernadette. It was kind of boring. The last few chapters of the book were rather boring.
Any additional comments?
I thought that Bernadette's recovery after 4 tankards of gin was extremely unbelievable. The morning after being almost gang raped and forced to drink all of the gin, it was as if she was not affected in the least.I did not like the proposal scene or accompanying sex scene. I just was not crazy about much of this book although I did like Matthew's character and his story. Seems a little odd, but Matthew's story was very good, it's just that the rest of the book didn't stand up to his story.
Glad it's over!

Matthew, an Irish sexy selfless New York gang leader meets, saves and then seduces Bernadette a wealthy widow who enjoys her independence and one night stands but once is enough for Matthew to know he wants far more than sex from Bernadette and tries to woo and win her despite their very different lives and backgrounds.
This listen was a lovely change from the 'Rake and the Virgin' type books - she's older than him and he has an eye patch and she thinks of him as a Pirate whereas he's actually more of a Robin Hood type character but she's yet to see this side of him. As you get drawn into their delicious love story you will find it's full of adventure, intrigue, passion and fun.
This is book 2 in The Rumor series but you'd never notice and makes a brilliant standalone story.
Worth the credit? Oh yeah.
This was a gamble that hit the Jackpot

Would you recommend Forever a Lady to your friends? Why or why not?
I would not, its not because of the story though- its the voice actress. Shes flat when shes speaking "american" and her "british" is no existant. The only thing shes actually good at are the irish accents. They are very nice and have emotion. She sounds like a pronunciation coach when she's just reading the non speaking parts. How could the performance have been better?
She could try listening to and practicing other accents? She could practice emotion in other accents. She might try acting out the scene fully in person before recording because her VO is flat when not in irish. What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
boring, annoyance. I couldn't get into it or finish it even because i hated the voice actingAny additional comments?
please practice more and try different dialects and genders.shes irish
